why is it everyone who just buys a new car..there always sayin im gonna tint the windows..put a stereo in and then DROP AND SR20DET into it..eveyone says it...it gets annoying after a while..id say more than half of us 240 owners dont have one..start basic n work up..a good set of header, exhaust n intake will boost ur performance for under 1k..no need to go engine swap rite away..the ka24e n ka24de are superb engines...idk im just rambling..its my opinion.

cuz magazine racers see a 240 widda sr swap and wanna do the same thing. they don't understand all the other werk thats involved. imo i prefer suspension tuning b4 a swap but everyones different. ka24e isn't that great, i'd much rather have a ka24de and tune that.

Magazines/TV/Ricer Friends

I'm in no way saying that the SR is not an incredible engine, not bashing the people that have one, but it is somewhat annoying that every new 240 owner is either some barely pubescent kid with dreams of the ultimate drag/drift/auto-x/show/S15 converted/bazillion HP or a former econobox owner with the same dreams....

thats because they all have inflated dreams of what they WANT their car to be, not what they can handle or put up with on a daily basis.

they figure they'll do all that work and the car will have the same reliability, and driving characteristics.

let me rephrase that, they think that a fast car with all the goodies will make them a professional driver, when in reality they cant handle a civic, and they wreck it.

thats true too. they add up the price tag and realise they cant pull it off with their $20 a week allowance.

Well personally, I'd rather have the sr for the weight distribution rather than the "jdm tyte yo" bragging rights.

The performance boost is good too...

..but I don't have one yet, so I guess I'm dreaming too..

lol Its amazing how ignorant some of the people are....

"Well I figure I can get the engine and install for $2000, then spend another $1000 in parts and thatll put me at almost 300hp right there for only $3000!What do you guys think??"

Yeeah, keep dreaming

magic math is even better. they cant do it themselves and somehow forget about the $75 an hour the shop is gonna charge them. and forget about the parts that need to be fabricated or modified.

its funny when they realise that all the little things add up to quite a number.

some think they can do it them selfs, keyword "think" and these are usually the poeple that can't tell the difference between a radiator and an intercooler.

i did not get my 240 because of the sr20 swap. i got it for racing (solo 2 and stuff like that) if i had the money i would get a lotus elise and race it. the sr is just a plus to the car but then there is a ka24de(t) :) that we could do or ca18det, rb20, rb25, rb26, small blocks from the usa. s*** what rwd motor cant you put in this car?

i think everyone is just different, i myself have a sr, but if i had the money i would like to buy another 240 and build the ka motor. The only reason i got the sr was because my ka24e was puffer, when i seafoamed it smoke was coming out of everything possible, it was so bad that after i got my sr put in the junk yard would not buy the ka motor from me....

more hidden charges include: new fuel injector, radiator, brake upgrades, just some to name a few.........

one swap i cant forget-

this guy brings in a 89 corolla fx16 wagon that he did a 4agze swap from an mr2 into it.

he got the motor bolted up, but couldnt get it to run, so he called my boss to have it brought in and looked at. so, i go and pick the thing up at his house and flatbed it back to the shop. i get the car in the bay, and open the hood.

holy ****!!

the guy had the intercooler from the mr2 just sitting face up in the engine bay facing the hood. no cut out in the hood or anything, just sitting directly underneath the hood. that made me wanna puke. after i got over that, and started tracing the wiring, the ecu wasnt being fed power, and the MAF was nowhere to be seen.

so, 3 phone calls, 2 parts deliverys, and 5 hours of wiring later, i get the thing to startup.

after informing him of the intercooler situation, he apparently didnt care. he responded with "will the motor run" i replied with "uhh huh", he paid the bill and left.

its amazing how stupid people can be.

started off with Teins, and vlsd. My buddy started off with SR. He ended up having to scrape every last penny because the first motor seized up on him.

He made fun of me about speed and aceleration, but I can steadily do 120 without ****ting my pants, his SR with blown shocks feels like its going to flip at 90 mph. :ylsuper

Thats another thing. Why do they not rebuild these motors? They say 30k miles but you know thats BS there is no way to know unless the clip has the factory odometer and even then it is not guaranteed to be accurate. If you are gonna do it do it right. rebuild the damn thing.

I would save the money you would spend on all that stuff and buy a turbo kit, or go for the swap. http://www.realnissan.com
