Seriously, its $5 for a big bag which sint even half full...

the tiny *** bags are like $3.99 and its NOTHING

is there a reason why beef jerkys so expensive? you can get the so called big bags (the harley davidson ones which are usually $5.99) for a dollar at the dollar store...

so, either the dollar store is losing money or other stores just charge an assload for them...

anyone know why?

Labor, Meat..

They also probably dry it with 21st century drying procedures

That is weird, cause u can get it at the dollar store cheaper, and its way expensive in the store, but that's what is it

also, why are u asking people on nico about beef jerky.....

beef jerky isnt like an ear or snout your eating.(maybe from the dollar store ) its a good cut of meat thats dehydrated. so allot of weight and therefore money just floats away in the air. that cost goes to you.

walmart has it cheap.

Beef Jerky is basically like taking a bigass steak and then dehydrating it to the point where you see it in the package. Obviously more to it than that, but that's why it's so expensive. You're basically paying for a dehydrated steak.

jerkey always has been pricey, plus with added steps in getting the meat jerky ready would move that price up, beef is slightly pricey already.

This thread inspired me to go buy some Beef Jerky.I snagged a Jumbo Bag of Jack Link's Original Hickory Smokehouse.Ironically, the bag actually advertises "Same 7.2 oz, LESS PACKAGING!" It seems they're starting to catch on, as this is easily the most jerky-packed bag of jerky I've ever bought.

Price was almost exactly $1/oz before tax, though. Ouch.

Yeah, it takes a lot of high-quality beef to make just a little jerky.

You're paying for like a 1lb ribeye in order to eat 4oz of Jerky.

Part of the problem is that he bought jerkey that was licsensed by Harley Davidson. Anything with the Harley name gets jacked up in price because of name brand recognition.

Jerky is made from brisket. Brisket is a proportionally expensive cut of meat, because all kosher beef products are also made from brisket.

My gramma makes me a bag of homemade jerky every Christmas. She figures it costs her about $150 in materials alone just to make 10 pounds, and that's before she factors the gas she uses to leave her oven on at 120 degrees F for 30 hours to dry the meat.

But the results are

step1, buy a gun, bullets and a meat drierstep2, sight gunstep3 go into woods and shoot deerstep4 make your self a good 50lbs of jerky keep some for yourself and sell the rest for $1 and ounce.

Problem solved

Pretty much anything being sold at the Dollar Store is being "dumped". Some place, some where had too much and needed to get rid of it.

Most real Beef Jerky fans will frown on this, but I'm a huge fan of the Jack Links Premium Cuts tender stuff. I bough 10 bags last week, on clearance at Target $1.88 a bag.
