Haha, thats how my ca18de met its death. But after 170K since 1988 Bone stock 125hp ca18 being revved to almost 9 grand every now and then. Honestly im surprised it lasted as long as it did!

My internally stock ca18 has seen more than nine thousand rpm twice under my ownership. A lesser motor would have grenaded on the spot.

If only we could buy a simple set of rods and never worry about that ever again. SR guys only have to reinvent their valve train but we, ha, we have to find the unobtainable. the incredibly complex "rods". I have heard of them but never seen them; I don't believe they actually exist. Lucky SR guys and their replaceable valvetrain.

Do stock CA ecu's come with a rev limiter?

Also, anyone know of a place where I can find a really cheap CA? I mean "needs a rebuild first" cheap.

Yes it does, however it cuts fuel rather than ignition.... Not a very nice one

Yeah, I always wondered what douche in R&D thought to do that.

Yeah mate, I also wondered the same thing... however one of our tuners in australia has been able to modify the ca ecu to use ignition rather than fuel cut... it took him a while to do it, but he has modified a couple now with great success...

although its not a pretty video, you can hear the ignition cut now..

I chose it because it was the best logical upgrade from my CA16DE in the pulsar! You won't find too many people rocking a CA18DET Nissan Pulsar... and i probably know all of those that are!

Is it time for page two? I believe it is.

I got my CA for the cheap boost, I stayed for the iron block and the head design.

The CA is pretty good in my book. I have daily driven mine for almost 2 years. I have had my share of issues, but I expected it after the shotty care that the previous owner took. I will keep my engine/transmission, harness, diff, and aftermarket parts, but the S13 is european and will not make it back with me (/cry).

quite a few reasons cited for rod bearing (big end) failure.Mostly due to wear. That 5hitty oil stick has bit a few believe it or not.Discussions have entertained; balance, design, etc..A CA goes a long way on a fresh set of bearings and stock rods

dude, smell the ironic tone I used

I've seen a few rod knocking CAs but they were poorly maintained high milage motors. My #1 rod bearing was getting wiped but I was power shifting at well over 8k all the time. If the motor is fresh and properly maintained 98% of the people would be fine on stock rods but they are a weak point, more the bolts than the rods I think and certainly not an outstanding weak point like th SRs rockers or the early RBs oil pump drive or from what I understand the QRs, well everything So what do VGs break?

My pulsar ECU doesn't have any sort of a limiter I ever found... which is why my bearings are wrecked.

I bought my car with the intention to keep it stock and sell for something else later down the track, but one thing led to another.

Throughout the modding I've learnt more and more about the CA18DET engine and become attached to my car (and its setup).

Unfortunetly there has to be a line drawn somewhere where enough is enough and I've slowly been doing less and less mods, whilst looking to sell at the end of the year for another project. (or keep this for a track car haha... $$ pending..)

My CA18 s13 is my 1st. Been my 'run-a-bout' almost 8 years. Automatic & AC is all I need for traffic jams... with a little sprint on demand.I believe this CA/s13 has been my most reliable car owned, mainly because I never stomp it and rarely stress the motor.... so no complaints this end.Was the quickest path to boost at the time.Must mention, my '92 KA24 never missed a beat either. Rock solid.

When looking for other rwd corolla powerplant options, I got deeper into the CA. They're a perfect fit/match, very similar to the toyota 4AG, except nissan made ALL the right moves upgrading it. Made too much sense for me.Compact and easier to work on than SR or KA too

CA does have its share of issues. Chronic rod bearing failure. Worst I've seen of any motor tbh. Stick around long enough, you'll see
damn u...the A/C bracket still eludes me

BTW i think im the only CA18DET in SoCal that is daily driven around.....15 miles a day...if not more...

i love this motor...its actually going into rebuild mode really soon

people kept thinking the huge oil cooler bewteen the headlights was an intercooler. "with 3/4 braided lines going through it, wtf"?
