Why get a clip over a motor/transmission.

Discuss the RB20, RB25 and RB26 series engines.

I was wondering what is the purpose of getting a clip, instead of a motor/transmission. Are there things in the clip that you need when doing the swap? Im wanting to get a RB26dett motor and put a 300zx transmission on it. But if buying the clip is the way to go and someone can give me a good reason for this it would be great.

A clip will give you the ability to scrap parts off of it and either sell them or use them for your swap. I ended up using a bunch of miscellaneous bolts/nuts from it. I sold my crossmember, gauge cluster, mounts, and a bunch of other stuff that you'd never think anybody would want.

But having done a swap already, if I did it again, I would just get the motor set. I guess it depends on how comfortable you are with the swap and/or fabrication especially with the RB26DETT.

Well if im able to sell things from the swap and let it somewhat pay for itself in some way by selling the pieces off that is a good idea. Im trying to find a company in FL to get one from so i can just go pick it up.

the 300zx trans dosent bolt to the rb26. you have to use a RB series transmission.

and as for the whole clip thing, for a RB26 its not as necessary as it is on a rb25 or 20 (because of the crossmember) but it never hurts to have extra parts like relays, wires, gauge cluster, etc.

There's a couple of places down by me in Mia & Ft Lauderdale.

Call up Moe from JDM of Miami.Seems like a good guy, has some pretty clean motors.Tell him the guy who bought the RB20 ECU sent you.
