how many times, and for how long does it turn over before it catches?

If you run the starter for too long it will fail. Also, between each attempt you should wait for awhile before doing it again.

Also, try putting it into ACC for 10 seconds, and THEN starting it and see if it works better that way. If it does, I would think you have a fuel pressure leak somewhere maybe.

I beleive typically the KA24DE takes about 1.5 seconds to start due to the fact that fuel is still injected sequentially during startup where most other cars are non-sequential during startup. Sequential doesnt work very well with such low engine RPMs during startup. I could be wrong about this though.

sometimes it started on the first time others i wait like 2min (20 attempts)...i dont know if my ignition cable (if that is the name) if that is loose.....cuz on my starter leads...i sanding it down with 80grit, used a wire brush and used the spray stuff that corrods anthing on the metal..so it has to be another problem....i think it has to do with my stock alarm and starter (cuz that's gone bad).....that's why im trying to located a fuse or cut a wire from it to disconnect the whole setup!

Probably ignition kill from your alarm. But check your spark plugs, distributor cap/rotor, plug wires, etc...check all your ignition stuff.

Is it an automatic? my maxima (auto) used to do the same thing, and youd end up having to fiddle with the shifter so that the transmission senses its in park or something. just a thought.
