okay so i buy a 1990 240sx.. it look'd very clean, exept for an oil leak. after the first month of me getting it, i needed to replace the cltical converter, then the suspension started to leak. the altrnator belt broke. then a month after that. the starter eft up, so i replaced it. 2 days after that, a piece of the radiator broke so i need to replace the whole radiator! why does this keep happening?! is it becuase its old or did the prevous owner scam me(he said its the way im driving it..?)...or are nissans and 240's hard to maintain. also. should i get a new car. or do an sr swap? i need opiniions and help please

Welcome to owning a 240 (or any car in general), when you fix something, something else will break...that's usually how it goes.

Edit: It just sounds like you had some bad luck there lol.

Well first of all man yeah the car is old. i drive a 90 240 also after 19 years. yeah sports cars do take a beating man. specially since they are sports cars. I got mine and a bunch of stuff happend to it. suspension all gone, radiator peaced out, my driver seat broke off!! haha. but i got the car with the mentality that i was going to spend a lot to be happy. I opted to the SR a year after i bought it. Re-did the suspension. simple= tokico hp blues, tein lowering springs. and the energy suspension poly. kit. It stiffened up the suspenions a lot and help my car from all the swaying. Depending on what you want your car for, the options are endless. Stay strong and remember that 19 years of brutality makes the current owner treat the car with extra tender love and care. good luck man.

my parents told me the day i turned 15. if you want to drive, you WILL have car payments, or a maintenance bill. one or the other, your choice. you bought a car that is old, and lots of miles. you have to plan and expect things to break. if you got the money, replace things before they have a chance to break. if not, roll with the punches. all cars are gonna need parts and labor. first, replace wear items like brakes, hoses, belts. or, pick a system. cooling system, suspension system, ignition, etc. a common way is to wait till something breaks then fix it. i dont recommend this, cuz itll be more money. word of advice, fix old sh#t before upgrading. dont drop mad coin for coilovers if all your bushings are shot, stuff like thatgood luck

Swapping to an SR isn't going to make less things break on your car. It's 19 years old, everything is going to start rusting, becoming brittle and snapping. You're dealing with a car that in 1 year will be able to get classic car plates. I have a 91, and I just finished an over-hall to the engine, and all the bushings on the car. So many bolts broke, snapped, rusted tight... you don't wanna know... -_-; But that's the thing, these cars require passion, and if you don't have that kind of time and energy and passion to put into a car you may want to consider a newer car. Maybe step up to an S14 if you want to stick in the 240SX world.

Personally I see no reason for you swap to an SR20... Because an SR could easily have problems like this too. I mean what you're describing are pretty normal problems with any normal car, and you just replace a bunch of stuff on this one. KA24 motors are strong good motors, and they can handle some serious turbo HP if you're willing to put the money into them.

My recommendation to use, invest in some good tools, air tools, heli-coil kits, some tools to help you get broke bolts out, and maybe a welder...

my personal feelings would be do not do an sr swap, dual cam ka's are much stronger, more reliable, and not to mention at the same boost pressure that sr20s come stock with(8 psi) a turboed ka will put more power to the wheels than the sr will to the flywheel, and after uping the boost the ka will run longer than a sr at higher boost, the bottom end of a ka is nearly indestructable, and so is the transmission, bottom line, dont do a sr swap, its a waste of money and time and its alot of work
