its annoying how the search function continues to be so terrible on this site, almost to the point of being a waste of time. Either you have to have such pinpoint wording (even if you select the "search for any terms") or it will say "no suitable matches were found". Even if I search for something as simple as "wheel" i cant pull a single result from the entire site! Sure have no problems sticking a hundred advertisements on the page but a way to search through all the fantastic info is just too much to ask.

PS. I remember complaining about this almost 3 years ago along with other members and its still terrible. I would suggest searching for all the people comlaining about the search but guess what will happen... ?

Actually, the search function was down today due to a server upgrade. Give it another shot.

How about telling us what you were searching for, so we can check for issues?

BTW, we're in the middle of building a CSE as I type this. It's a big job, and not cheap, but will be awesome when it's done.

FNAWSM, I appreciate the feedback, but it's a little disappointing when people are nasty about a shortcoming on a free site.

Looks like a lot of results... :)

I just searched for wheel without changing anything and found TONS of results, far too many and the search for what you would be looking for definitely needs to be refined beyond that.

Personally I like the search function on this site and have never had any problems finding what I needed.

I also complained about the search function earlier this year in the main part of the forum

A little different from your complaint, but also taking issue with the lack of capabilities within the search function....not to mention lack of "search within thread". Oh well.

AZHITMAN, thanks for the update. It's greatly appreciated. I'm a member of 6 different motorcycle forums and 4 car forums. I've only paid for one motorcycle forum because I get a TON of info and buy parts from other members. It's obvious all the funding for the site comes from advertising and having a more fluid and user friendly site will increase the number of advertisers.
I have given Nico props on most of the forums I'm a member of to help create more interest.
Again, thank you for the info on the updates and I look forward to using the updated forum.

Thanks Josh.

I'm a firm believer (always have been) that information should be free. We're one of the LAST remaining big forums that's still privately-owned (corporately-owned forums start to suck pretty quickly). As such, our staffing is limited, so a lot of what we do comes down to TIME.

Of course, if someone wants to pony up a few bucks to help pay my $80/hour developer to hustle up on the custom search engine we're building, I won't turn it down. ;)

Thanks for your loyalty... It means a ton to us, and it's probably the #1 reason we have no desire to "sell out".

We're ALWAYS open to suggestions, and we're probably running one of the most heavily-modified phpBB boards on the web... so, we can only expand to the limits of what the phpBB developers have created.

I think you guys are gonna be amazed at the changes that are coming. Thanks again man. :)
