When I first start up the car or whenever it is cold it runs so much stronger than when hot. Any ideas? Could this be the knock sensors not showing up as "dead" in the mornings?

It is quite a noticable difference which is what makes me sad. LOL

Because cold air is denser?

Don't know why anyone would gauge their engine's power at start-up before it is warmed to OEM specified operating temperature.

Let me rephrase....ONCE warmed up it is stronger than the car normally is after lots of driving.

It is not running hot. New water pump, radiator etc... Runs within normal temp range. I will go ahead and double check the fan/clutch etc to make sure though. Any other ideas?

The Q is notorious for running like a slug when it's hot outside.

My Z does it as well. The problem with the Q when its not running 100% optimal it runs like a slug.

Having owned 3 1st gen Qs, and a few Zs, the answer is: Your engine's fan. Any car with a belt driven fan robs power from the engine when hot. In the Qs and Zs (not the new one), the fans are really strong. Ever notice how loud a Q or Z's fan is when the car starts moving in warm to hot weather? it's a Nissan thing...
