This morning while I was warming up my car I noticed that the needle on my tach would sometimes move by itself. Especially when I apply the brake or if I slightly touch the gas pedal I noticed that the needle on my tachometer would rise a few lines above the 1K RPM line then drop back at the 1k rpm line, or a few lines below it. What could be the problem with my car? thanks in advance...

i believe it has to do with the vacuum of the engine and stress on the engine. when you apply the brakes the brake booster is being used and it operates on vacuum. when you turn the steering wheel it creates stress on the motor causing the idle to fluxuate. they shouldnt fluxuate to much but a little bit is normal

Well, I have a 96 Se, and I have had the same problem for months, maybe even years now. My tach bounces all over, and sometimes doesn't work at all. I was told here that it is the step motor going out in the actual tach. Nothing to worry about really, you will more than likely have to replace it, like i will.

Hope this helps.
