I've had this problem for a while, where if I brake, and then get on the gas quick, or am backing up, then start to move forward, something at the rear of my car goes clunk. It's not driveline lash, so I'm thinking its my subframe. Last I looked, my bushings were in pretty good condition, so would something like SPL aluminum subframe collars do the trick? Does anyone else have this problem?

your subframe bushings are probably all messed up. collars would help it, but not fix it. also i would try torqing all the subframe bolts to spec, just to make sure.

Check the rear brake pads too. I literly had one just pop off and get stuck between the heat sheild and rotor. Worst noise ever.

Mine S13 '93 SE does it almost since new, this week I will change all bushings whith the EnergySuspension kit and change the small tierod-ins in the rear rack (Hicas), hope to find and fix noise. Will post some pics of the process.

it's not my brake pads, I just got done with a 300zx brake swap, and i double checked those firts. I probably just need new bushings/spacers.

ralphdig, post up how you like your energy suspension bushings, I was thinking of getting those too

yea, sounds like the subframe. When i was learning to drive stick on my car, it would clunk every time i would shift crappily. Its hard to see how the bushings are doing...chances are they are pretty messed up. Rubber doesnt age well. Have fun installing the aluminum bushings...
