I have a 89 240sx. I installed a walbro fuel pump 255lph. I did a quick tune up: ngk plugs, fuel filter, oil filter, air filter, and cleaned my engine with a liquid. My car has 217k miles. I don't know why is it. Can it be the pump. My engine is stock ka24e. Please help.

Fuel pump is stronger. You have more fuel pressure, you need a regulator to bring it back down...

My coupe uses a lot of gas also. I likely doubt if that retard who owned it before me had the knowledge to replace the fuel pump. Hrrmmm..

This might be totally obvious. But if you're driving your car harder, you're going to use more gas. Shift at a lower RPM, also don't be in a huge rush to build RPM's either. Slow steady acceleration wins the fuel race :P.

Hey i bought the fuel pressure regulator but now it has an adjustment to it with a gauge. How many psi do i have to put it to be normal, good gas saver? Thanks.

Check a Hayne's or chilton's manual. I have a ka24e and mine says 33psi or 227.5kpa. Hope that solves your problem.

Here are some things that could cause bad MPG:

- Since you installed a high output fuel pump, you need to connect a temporary fuel pressure gauge on the fuel filter output side to measure the pressure.

The pressure readings should be as follows:At idle with vacuum hose connected: 33 psiAt idle with vacuum hose disconnected: 43 psi

- Also check the O2 sensor for proper operation.

bad mileage: been discussed lotsa times on this board...

* check for trouble codes; some will pinpoint u to the following...

* coolant temp sensor; hey, if the ecu reads a cold engine, it'll keep the injectors open longer...

* 02 sensor- self-explanatory

* leaking fuel injectors (internal leak) some set off a trouble code (#45) while other models, like the non-CA-emissioned s13 SOHC ones won't have this trouble code

<shrugs>

well i meant i have a clue on what my problem it could be. I purchased a fpr from ebay. I think is a no name brand. Im trying to figure out how to install it because im a big noob to these things, im getting to know things. There is one output and one input hole. There is an extra one on top, its a little one. I dont know where that goes or simply how it goes overall. Help.The fpr looks like this.

One should be labeled input and output at the lower half, the one loner at the top is for a vac signal.

Hey i put the fpr and when connected it shows is at 40psi. It sounds good but when i went outside to try it, it was like chocking. it did not wanted to go anymore. I moved the little screw from the top and now it seems to work but is still at 40psi. Any clues?

it's more probable that the fpr gauge isn't doing its job. I'd get an inline fuel pressure gauge and check the fuel pressure that way.

I think im just going to go back to stock. I lost the old fuel pump but my friend gave me one of his but is from an s14 nissan 240sx. Will it fit my 89 nissan 240sx and will it save gas again?
