No matter what someone will always be throwing insults at your car, for every 10 that like it 20 could hate it.

Around my location almost all of the J30's around me are ugly modified or in **** condition because of infrequent or nonexistent maint.

Personally I like them, but not more than a Q.

You've got to remember what the J actually is, it was never really a race car and it doesn't do so well as a pimped ride.

It's a Japanese classic highline, nothing more. That needs some TLC and a significant financial investment. It's a decent car for the time. Just keep it clean and enjoy not having a car payment, repair payments for most of us but cars just do not drive like a J anymore.

People are the same about the 1990-1993 Q45's either you like them or you don't. The thing about the Q and why they look bad to some people is because hey have no grill.

The reason people probably don't like the J must be the rear end how it goes down like that.

I heard the same thing that either you love the looks of the J30 or hate it. But my 94 J30T with four wheel steering is probably one of the best handling cars in the world. I love how I can whip it around corners at high speed under full control that other people have to slow down for. I also have over 193,300 miles on it, and have spent almost nothing on repairs in the four and a half years I owned it. I myself don't like the way the rear end looks, but the spoiler on a J30T does make it look better.

The rear end looks like a saggy grandma *** if you think about it. I would like my car more if it wasn't getting so beat up, I guess. And if there was an aftermarket for it.Still, I like the car.

I like the rear and have always thought that they went conservative/wrong with the design of the front. They should have gone with something a bit more aerodynamic/sloping and 300ZX or later model Jag/Mercedes like.

What kind of car club do you belong to? Most people who I've shown my J30 to love it. They can't believe it's fifteen + years old. I don't see how anyone who likes import cars would not like the VG engine. It's also hard to criticize the interior aside from the rear legroom. It must be the exterior. The back end is love it or hate it, but the style that was once considered radical does not look so out of place amongst today's cars in my opinion.

I have to agree with the love hate with the rear, it kind of dips off in a unique way. It is like the predecessor to modern Infiniti styling. The brush stroke marketing campaign for the 06 M could have worked with the with the early J. The interior and front end design are timeless having electro-luminescent interior mirror, heated side mirrors, heated seats. Considering the design of the trunk and its low profile downward slope and trunk mounted gas tank there is a decent amount of trunk space.

The fit and finish of my 95 is better than many new cars. With a little time and some work I have made the interior quieter than many of the new cats I have driven. There are tons of screws holding every panel together and the locking pawls they used back then on everything are much nicer and secure than the new models. The down side to this is with age and solar abuse the integrity of the plastics are not as intact as the locking tabs and tiny expensive pieces of trim have no chance. It has taken me several batches of JB weld to repair some interior trim.

One of the things I personally like about the J is there is no aftermarket. Hopefully that will attempt to keep people from doing ricey things to a classic.

I get asked about the car and complimented a lot when I have the car out and about from late spring to early fall. Mine is a well maintained mint stock version.

1) All things considered, yeah, it's roomy. But considering all things doesn't make anymore space for three people + luggage.

2) Absolutely. My Volvo was a rattletrap at like 130,000 miles. My J is close to 230,000, and it barely makes a peep.

3) I could care less about body mods, etc. But seriously, having ONLY OEM suspension available? That's not good for the majority of us, is it? No option but custom intake/exhaust if you have/want to replace it. I guess I understand that there wouldn't be a lot of profit to be made on an aftermarket for these cars anymore, but hey, it'd still be nice.

I didnt like the rear end at first... but I have owned my J30 for about 6 months now and love the car more than any other car I have ever had. It's a beast in the snow :SIDEWAYS: I love the way it looks in the dark and I love watching it move. So elegant, so stylish. Haha,

NEED PARTS THOUGH!!

I completely agree with you. I have driven several of these cars over the years but once you actually own one its a different experience. I am growing to like the hunt for illusive trim panels I would like to replace. I need the center vent assy, as I broke mine trying to get it out. I am also missing the engine cover, but I am sure that would be something easy to get, but the four factory allen head bolts will be a bit more a score.

When a J is in great running order both aesthetically and mechanically it is a great vehicle.

I know this thread is a bit old, but you have to keep in mind that when Infiniti released the J back in '93 (I think it's '93), that it was presented as a luxury car & nothing more. @ a whopping $35K for the base, not too many young people could afford it & probably not their parents, either. Not unless they were in the higher income bracket (banker, real estate manager, etc.). This car was not designed for your average, blue-collar person like most of us are here (me included).

As far as if to mod or not, that is entirely up to the person who owns it. Some will love it, some will hate it. That's life.

I don't know about that. Sad as it is, even a J30 can be riced.
