I always wondered why I see some turbos with holes and stuff like this.

I'm not sure if this allows running without a BOV... I think it may just be for that extra protection from compressor surge. I'm sure one of the more turbo smart guys will chime in on this.

turbobygarrett.com turbo_tech103. wrote:A Ported Shroud compressor (see Fig. 2) is a feature that is incorporated into the compressor housing. It functions to move the surge line further to the left (see Fig. 3) by allowing some airflow to exit the wheel through the port to keep surge from occurring. This provides additional useable range and allows a larger compressor to be used for higher flow requirements without risking running the compressor into a dangerous surge condition. The presence of the ported shroud usually has a minor negative impact on compressor efficiency.

Uhm, I call bull****. If that is your turbo, you are going to be running 10's when you get that fuel problem fixed.

EDIT: I am an R-tard. I thought it said why does my compressor housing look like this.

I DIDNT SAY IT WAS MINE!!! I wasnt trying to imply that either I took that pic off ebay. I was just curius!

But mine is the same specs as this one! I dont run 10's! Internals and fuel injectors cannot support that!

.....

Those holes(Anti-surge) just allow whatever air doesn't enter the intake charge piping due to the engine being full to enter those holes and avoid surging. It is for small engines running huge turbos at low RPM operation. A lot of supra guys will use this feature until they find a turbine housing that spools the turbo at the correct RPM to where they do not encounter surge. At that point, they do the "anti-surge delete" modification.

It has nothing to do with your BOV or lack thereof.

Yes.

SMracing did it with nitrous and I'm sure Jeff Taylor's car has the power to run 10s. With good 60's you can run 10s with very little power.

Greaser ran 10s with under 400whp.. Traction and weight can make your car run 10s with moderate power..

Garrett and Holst both use a form of them, but I don't know about Precision, but they have them pictured. I think it is HKS that does the holes like that.
