Hi all, Im up here in ATL for NOPI (which was awesome), anyways on the drive up here from south florida, I ended up pulling off the road 6 times to change broken wheel studs on the front. I can drive about 150 miles or so, then my wheel starts to shake, so I pull over and find that 1 or 2 of my front wheel studs on either side have sheared in half and fell off. I have no idea what is causing this. I do have aftermarket rims (18x7.5) and im a 4-lug.

When I first installed the wheels, I drove the car for about a month and a half with no problems, then out of nowhere, the studs start snapping. Im thinking maybe I should put a set of new hubs up front, but id rather not shell out the money for them if thats not gonna fix it. thanks

Do you have wheel spacers?

also, is the wheel in balance? to rule this out, try to switch the Front and rear wheels

if you don't have spacer and it still snaps in the front, your hub might be damaged

Are you over tightening the lugs? too many foot pounds can easily cause studes to break. check the holes on your rim, if they are warped and not perfectly round the rim could be sliding around as you are driving and over time will start to put too much strain on your studs.

here's my guess:

aaarrrrrrrreeeeee those aftermarket rims 'hub-centric'??????

that's my guess if your rims are not resting on the hub ring... hopefully u can get adaptors to make those rims use the hub--- u dont want your lug studs/nutz to be carrying the weight of the vehicle...

well, if this isn't the case, then do a frt-rear rotation of the wheels & other stuff these members already posted.

i'm amazed that members in the meet didn't advise/look at your problem 1st-hand...

I believe the rims are hub centric since the center hole in the rims fits perfectly onto the hub. I am torquing the wheels at 90 lb/ft. Also on the ride home from atlanta I drove 10 mph slower then on the trip up there and I didnt snap any of them.
