Why did you choose a CA instead of an RB?

I know you can get OEM parts from the local auto parts storeThey're cheaperEasier to installLighter and don't shift weight more to the front

But so far the extra power of these motors out of the box makes up for these things. And you don't have to worry about swapping the larger and better parts from RB to the CA. (injectors, mafs, and such)

So what am I missing?

because its tinny sits behind the front axles, weight distribution is almost perfect. Good for autox

For me it was weight distribution and money.

It came with the car. But seriously knowing that i can drive the Silvia anywhere in North America and not be completly SOL if something broke is quite reassuring.

Well, I bought my 180sx with a ca18 and a few tasty mods. Im tight for cash right now so I'm working with the ca18. Wow I made that seem like its a chore to work on this thing with that sentence. I love this engine, for all the reasons stated above. The choice in the next 2-3 years of weather or not I'm going to still be using my ca and not swapping it with an rb25 will come down to money, and weather or not im drifting. The power potential of 450rwp safely on an rb25 excites me, even if it is only good for a straight line.

The rb20 crossover intake pipe is fugly, I dont like running without a mechanical fan, would always second guess myself for not saving up a bit more for the rb25, low factory HP rating (210hp) for a 6 cyl (low in my opinion)

CA18 175hpRB20 210hp

So it only makes 35 more hp with 2 whole cylinders more? Eww. And thats considering the CA's puny stock turbo also.

I do like the RB's exhaust note better and I guess the internals would be better balanced as an inline 6 vs. 4.

I have both (CA and RB25) and trust me, CA's are WAY cheaper and WAY easier to install. That being said, the CA also has no torque.

RB > CA, there's really no comparison. As mentioned before the weight balance is worse with an RB but I roadrace mine and have no complaints. It's not as bad as people like to make it sound...

lol was money for me too was a big thing.

Now that i've done it though I'm happy i didnt get an SR, and RB's do add alot more complication into the swap along with the negatives listed (weight, weight distro, etc)

i do love rb's tho they are amazing engines.

no comparison at all. Unparalelled torque, sound & smoothness. You'd never look back.Seen a few s13/rb25 custom swaps done in a day... running in minutes. (Yeah, I got some 'sharp' buddies).3 of 'em ~7.0-7.1 in the 1/8th on unopened 25s = pretty darn quick street carsdepends on what you're after

I wanted a swap for years and my choice had been the SR because thats what the general population went with and thats what I heard talked about the most often. Then I discovered a little gem, by means of the CA sub forum, called the Ca18det. Honestly, I chose it to be different and have not regreted it since. I love it when someone asks if I have an SR and I answer "NO, I have a CA".

I think at least 20 people's heads have exploded since.

because i have 10 of them for spares, and using anything else would just be perverse. That and I love the CA and an RB costs proper money
