why camshafts?

I was looking at toda cams, valve springs and cam gears? (i think they are called somethign else for timing chain design?)

and it looks like one will be spending 600 to 800 to sport a set of cam + adjustability

additional search revealed that you can only gain 10 to 15 rwhp...

doens't sound like alot of gain... for that kind of money you can do other things that'll give you more power... so why cam?s

because if you are running a turbo you will need a longer open intake duration to get all the a/f mix into the cylinder. Also if you run a longer intake duration you will need to run a longer exhaust duration to evacuate the exhaust gases
