Hey guys, I was wondering what were you're reasons for choosing the CA18DET over other motors? I'm looking to buy a motor for my 240sx and the CA18det seems to be the most appealing to me. But i'm wondering why all of you swapped for it?What caught you're eye, what made it so appealing? I like the high redline, smaller motor, even if it has less power has just as much potential as the sr20. My friend told me that the CA has forged internals and is shot-peened from the factory. Is that true? If it is, i'm sold!

Hi,

Few reasons why I like it,

Hard to get, not too many has it, so it is different and nice to be different from the rest of the SR and other engines ThereThe engine block is caste ironIt take some unbelievable beatingpeak power is at 6800rpm stock (imagine when you add more perfromance parts to it, I think boostboy has it where he shifts or revs up to 9000rpm, where not too many engines can take this kind of abuse). Will take twice the hp that it generates on stock internals. And no the pistons aren't forged. The engine is well built and designed by Nissan, and it has a history of being a tough engine.

I might forgot couple more.

Pulsar Gtr got it. The only thing is that the rods are forged but the pistons aren't.

to be different, mostly. And then i read about the better valve train, and then became accustomed to the cosy atmosphere over here in the CA forum. Less people total but probably just as many good people here than in SR forums. Oh, and cost, kinda. Cheap parts, less money for the motorset. Just a few things off the top of my head

Because it rocks.....SR's are too popular and expensive. I like the Ca because I like being different. The way I see it, keep in mind this is MY opinion, the CA has just as much potential as the SR its just a little harder to reach. I love the CA, it's cheaper and it isn't as weak as the SR.

Paul seemed to think they were forged... I remember reading old posts from way back when, where he was discussing how they were forged? I honestly have no clue:confused:

Pistons are made of lanoleum! Why the CA you ask? It's serviceability is is awesome. It's valve train is cleanly designed and with some $$$s invested, you could be enjoying its design even more. Though it is somewhat small in physical size, it's a big performer in terms of the overall big picture of what one wants in an engine on a budget. It has a pretty solid bottom end and will take a massive amount of abuse. To me the pistons are the weak link, but that's well and after 500hp for an engine with the right cams, tuning and fuel system. Otherwise, just a great engine that many know nothing about and good ridance to them.
