$30 for those speeds are miserable.
Encryptshun wrote:What the hell do you need 22/5 for? You torrenting the entire internet?

I game, watch pr0nz, download software via Steam, and have 5 simultaneous devices on my wireless network and it still doesn't throttle my speed.
8/2 isn't enough. I used to have 15/5 and I thought that was cool. But once you rely on torrenting to get your media, the extra speed is a benefit. I have Showtime but I still go on Demonoid to DL the latest episodes of Weeds. The extra speed of 25/25 (what I have now) makes a huge difference.

300MB episode:
- w/ 25Mb DL= 96sec
- w/ 15Mb DL= 160sec

It doesn't seem like much, but now make that a 3GB Blu-Ray and you learn to LOVE the higher speeds.
Progress is not a good thing.

ATT DSL Dry Loop (no land line)
$15/month. That's taxes, fee's, everything. I'm waiting on U-Verse to get to my neighborhood.

In America it means you pay more. Everywhere else it means you pay less.

Home is slow (DSL, and I get about 2Mbps down, 750kbps up).

But, work is very, very fast (I tried some different test sites to compare):

The ping test is also good:

I live in Vermont. My options for internets are satellite, Jack and s***. Jack left town. I get hosed $70 a month for the privilege of 345MB of bandwidth per day. Oh, and it recharges at about 1MB per minute. That means no streaming movies and no online gaming. (latency)

One of the reasons our internet is "so horrible" compared to "tech savy" countries is our country IS f*** HUGE. Korea, Spain, and Portugal are peanuts compared to the expanse these companies have to try and cover. Running fiber optic or cable is not free. Why don't they compare us to Russia or Canada? I think even with China most of their population is along the coast.

Well even in heavily populated areas our bandwidth:price ratio is garbage.

I couldn't out up with what you put up with. You're a saint.
