Why are there different Z32 Brembo Rotor sizes?

Hey guys,

I'm planning on doing the Z32 front brake caliper swap on my S14. I bought a set of brand new Brembo rotors from someone locally. I also had a pair of stock Z32 rotors laying around.

For some reason, there is a very significant size difference in the two rotors. I looked up the part number on the Brembo website and confirmed that they are in fact for the 300zx 90-96 ALL MODEL. Under the ALL MODEL catagory, there are two sets of difference sized rotors. Here are the two:

http://www.brembo.com/Catalogo...31.10(the size that matches STOCK measurements more)

and

http://www.brembo.com/Catalogo...12.10(mine)

The one I have has a thinner braking surface, slightly larger diameter, even larger height (the hub part?).

For sure, these are the rotors for the 300zx according to Brembo. But why is the sizing so different? What's the purpose? Will they still fit on my S14? Won't the rotor sit further in (towards the engine)?

Your help will be greatly appreciated!

It looks like the first one is for the front 30mm calipers and the second one looks like the rears.

No...these are actually both for the fronts. Isn't it odd??

No, they're not. Look at the thickness of the 2nd link. They're only 18mm thick. NOT for the front.

Also, I'm curious as to how you came to those pages? I looked through Brembo's catalog and did not see any resembling part numbers.

Apparently, the Brembo online search mixes the front and rears together. That's why I thought I had the front ones.

What should I do now? This guy sold it to me saying they were for the fronts.

I still have his number. And on the box of the rotors, it has his full address. What should I do if he refuses to give me money back for the wrong rotors?

Also, can someone tell me where to get some good (preferably non drill or slotted) 26mm rotors? How much would the factory stock ones cost? I don't wanna go get them from a junk yard. Any suggestions?

Those are most definitely fronts and rears. PDM sells crossdrilled KVR discs and slotted PowerSlots. The 26mm rotors are kinda hard to find especially blank ones. That Brembo page lets you search by size, so maybe you find a 280x26mm rotor with the correct offset (height).

BTW, heres a good site to look up Brembo discs...http://www.nolimitmotorsport.c....html

Partsamerica.com for $27.99 each. If you buy two, there's free shipping.

Hey Jerome! Thanks for the source. Looks good to me. Have you personally ordered from them and got the 26mm rotors? I'm asking because a lot of people order their rotors and got 30mm rotors instead.

Personally, I haven't. However, I looked at the vehicles that that rotor fits and it only lists 1990 NA 300ZX. So, I'm assuming its the correct one. I even went to the Raybestos website and it listed the same thing. However, it didn't list any measurements, so I can't be 100% sure. The good part about ordering from Partsamerica.com is that you can return them to any Advance Auto Parts, Checkers Auto Parts or a few other places that may be in your area.

Good luck!

Hey Jerome. Here's an update on the rotors you found for me. Read my last post. Thanks again!

Also, I called the guy who sold me the Brembo rotors. He said he didn't know they were the wrong rotors. He called the place where he bought it from and said he just received the wrong part. He's gonna give me back $50 for it and deal with resaling them himself.

I also just bought a set of 26mm Z32 calipers from the guy who started Datsun510.com. Very cool guy. So now I have a set of 30mm aluminum calipers for sale. Let me know if anyone's interested. I'll let NICO-ers get them first before I post them up locally.

i got fuked from my local parts store on buying front calipers and rotors from a 91 TT (i think). but either way it was for the same exact year car and model. i wanted the aluminum calipers and got those and two new rotors. i polished the calipers and drilled the rotors expecting a straight up bolt on. rotors on and i go to bolt the caliper on and its pulling the rotor in WTF. i came to the conclusion that i had 26 mm calipers with 30mm rotors. i got some washers and grinded them down to the perfect height to allow the caliper to sit directly over the rotor. it worked, but im still pissed about it. i do plan to get new rotors eventually that are the correct 26mm width.

Yeah...a lot of the local parts store don't know the difference (or know that there IS a difference) between the 26mm and 30mm calipers/rotors. It's really quite frustrating. I went on PartsAmerica.com as Jerome referred me to and printed out the page, brought it to the local Kragen to have it ordered there. I made sure the part number for the rotors I ordered is different from the 92+ NA rotors or the other turbo (30mm) rotors.

I haven't got the rotors yet, but I will let you guys know whether the rotors I ordered are truly the 26mm ones. If they're correct, then you can order it here with this link:
