:werd: I had new rotors , wheel bearings and seals installed on my 2wd 2001 pathfinder along with a front end alignment and had both front wheels balanced. Now about 2 months later my brakes are grinding and squeaking when I'm coming to a stop. It's usually only happens after driving for a while, I guess after the rotors and brakes have warmed up. Both rotors and brake pads are quality, they are not some cheap entry level products. As a quick side note , this also happened the last time my brakes were replaced and that time the rotors were only turned. Does anyone know what the problem is ? :wierd:

Guessing the shop didn't replace the slider pins on the front calipers... probably didn't clean and grease them either, and probably didn't shim them correctly or put "anti-squeal / chatter" material on the back of the pads.

There's an off-chance that you have a bad pad (I've seen chunks of metal in the pad compound on $100 pads - oops) OR a pebble stuck in the pad.

Can you inspect the front rotors VERY closely? Better yet, a good pic would help.

Let's figure this one out. :)

Are they metallic brakes? Those squeak. Has it been raining? It's more likely to happen with moisture. You need to get high quality ceramic brakes to avoid squeaking.

Perhaps it's your rear brakes that are squeaking, have those been replaced?

Have you checked the pins? They may need to be removed, sanded and lubricated, as per AZhitman.

Do you have new hardware, and is it lubricated?

The breaks are the oem which are semi metallic, and no I haven't checked the pins , I'll have to take a look this sat and I'll lube everything and clean everything up. Hopefully that works . It sucks though because I paid more than $500 to get all that work done because of the difficulty of trying to change the rotors .

Don't take anything apart unless you're ok with absolving the shop of any future liability.

I'd ask them to show you the pads, with shims attached, and anti-squeal on the pad backside. I'll bet it's not there.

Always check in here if you have a difficulty (before going to a shop). We've been saving people money since 2002. :)
