Why are 300zx Brake swaps so sought after/Popular? I see alot of questions being asked about them, posts about them and people looking to do them. I searched and just found questions on them, not the question at hand on why would you wanna? Someone clear it up for me.

Thanx

the 300zx brakes are alot bigger and they are 4 piston calipers, i think. stock 240 brakes are single piston calipers

Ok, I figured size had something to do with it since on all the searched pages asked about clearance with them. I didn't know for sure and expecially about the pistons, so thanx for the clear up i'm sure you're correct, it all makes sense.

basically for less than $500 youre getting all the braking you need, without spending 4 times as much on a brembo or stoptech kit, which most people dont need

you're getting MORE than enough heat dissipation/stopping power/fade reistsnace..come on..the Z32 Twin turbo setup was designed to take a 3400lb car down from 140 to 0 without failing...

I think it can handle a 2800lb car from 115.

I have had my swap for about 2 months now, and the difference is night and day with the Z32 calipers. It has saved my a** a couple times in traffic with this brake set-up.

90% of people get them because they say nissan on them

I did, mine didn't even say nissan - hahahaha, that was one of the reasons. It think it's something more like 91.32% of ppl.

The other reason was that my rotors & pads were fubared, and for just a little more money, I was able to get an entire 300zx setup. It actually doesn't cost "that" much if you have to replace your current brake parts anyway.

I got them because the Junkyard I went to had them...

Also, stock Nissan Brakes suck.

why not Q45 brakes? arent those designed to stop an even heavier car and dont they have a larger diameter rotor?

There really isn't anything wrong with the stock brakes. You can only brake as much as your tires allow anyway, so if you can lock the brakes with your stock brakes, you need better tires, not better brakes. Also, brake fade has a lot more to do with pad composition than the rotor size.

^^add to that, rotor mass Z32 vs 240sx.

They are outstanding brakes. Moving more fluid with the larger 1-1/16" master cylinder into a 4 piston caliper clamping on larger diameter and thicker rotor, on a lighter car than the z32 is the win. Just add sticky tires.

I have the Z32s all the way around and I will say that there is no justifacation for not doing at least the fronts.

when i upgraded mine from the Q45 brakes, i decided it wa sa no lose situation... it was cheaper for me to go with these brakes than to get new OEM rotors and pads!!! and that was with buying z32 rotors, CALIPERS and pads! Pads and rotors are about half the price as Q45 stuff.....
