I don't know if this is a stupid question or not, but why did Nissan decide to make the the base model 240's have 4 lug rims standard? Was it a matter of cost? Wouldn't have been cheaper to just make all models and trim levels standard with 5 lug rims? Also what is the point of of offering a 4 lug rim when the bulk of a manufacturer's cars come standard with 5 lug? Again might be a stupid question but I figured I'd ask just to quell my curiosity.

i really don't know for some reason in the early 90s alot of smaller cars were 4 lug. It probably would have been cheaper to do 5 lug on all the cars. what i cant comprehend is why my our 1991 mustang GT is a freaking 4 lug and the damn 5 lug came on the cobras

Price.

Plain and simple.

Less machining, less raw material, less parts, lighter weight, etc.
