I was just wondering whos got the fastest KA that is still NA and has an auto transmission. I might be thinking of going down this route because of racing purposes.

Why NA? First off, I have NOTHING against going turbo. Just wanted to get that out there first. I just think that after adding any form of forced induction, the chances of something bad happening increase by quite a bit. Turbo KA kits arent cheap, and SR swaps seem like their a dime a dozen. Id just like to have a decently quick NA car, plain and simple.

Why auto transmission? Well, one of the biggest reasons is that I bracket race, and manual trannied cars just dont get it done. Consistency is key, and autos rule.

The nice thing about going NA is that you can do things in stages. If you go turbo, it has to be all done in one fail swoop, and I dont have cash for that.

So again, Whos got the quickest NA/auto trans. KA?

Thanks, Brad

My fastest time is 15.702 with just bolt-ons basically. I havent been to the track in a while though so I may be in the 15.6 range or my auto may be giving and Ill run in the upper 15's... I still have a few things I can do bolt on wise, not to mention transmission upgrades ecu retune blah blah blah, to be faster as well.

I havent seen any faster slips from NA non nitrous auto 240s.

NA auto s-chassis cars arent that quick :( Mine really isnt consistant either. Well the 60' are consistant 2.3 2.4 but my ET can jump .3 between runs.

my time on my old motor N/A was 14.90, but then sprayin it was a lot faster. What exactly are you looking to do besides bracket race the car? Because Honestly, the automatics today shift faster and more precisely than any standard, and can handle more power as well...

BTW, my transmission had close to $2k in it, and the motor was well over the $3k mark.

Higher RPM toruqe converter, strengthened internals, transmission fluid cooler, Manual shift linkage (correct terminology?) and ratchet shifter.

yep.All of which were on my car. Torque convertors unfortunately are a custom order application...

Nitrous is 10 times more destructive to a standard than an automatic.

My automatic car ran one hell of a shot of nitrous.Anyone that tries to tell you than an auto is slower, or that you can't do as much with it is an idiot.

I knew it was something like that to squeeze that little extra time. I thought I put, I havent seen slips from another faster NA auto bolt-on 240, but I forgot the bolt on part. I had a very strong urge you would post a faster time.

Level 10 is a company I have heard nothing but good things from in the past. They have coustom converters, valve body upgrades, and performance rebuild kits.. IIRC, as I dont want to look through their site, the VB was about 350, rebuild kit was around 700+ and the TC was dancing around the 1k dollar mark... Definately not cheap, but it never is.

I had a 75 wet shot on my 95 auto w/ only intake and exhaust.

Ran a 14.7 with a lots of traction problems.

Once I got some better tires, I never ran it in the quarter again, but did manage a 9.1 in the 1/8th. It was fun...never had problems. Ended up selling the nitrous kit and the motor is still running strong as my daily driver w/ over 113,000 miles.

For 14 and 15 second cars a manual trasmission will make you faster. For anything 12 seconds and faster an auto transmission will make your shifts more accurate. when you start getting into the 10s you are far better off with a built auto transmission and manual shifter. You wont ever miss a gear and you shifts will likely be faster than if you had a manual transmission.

A torque converter swallows horsepower just being a part of your drivetrain. A manual transmission pushes harder when going into the next gear when driven correctly(which is why you get much more tirespin between gears on a manual). The launch gap is closed as soon as the automatic has the power to use all it's available traction off the line. I wouldn't say a automatic is faster cause when you drive correctly it's down right instantaneous. Even if you remover the shift softener from your auto and had 5 spds that were identical to a manuals you'd still be missing a bit of lunge between the gears as well as a few horsepower that got lost in the drivetrain.

Ok, let me rephrase. Without human error a manual transmission is always faster. But I dont know anyone who is a human shift-bot. I guess if we all had machine like driving skills we would want manuals. It takes an amazing driver to drive a 10 or sub 10 second car perfect every time.
