I like it.

Allen Iverson finally adds some superstar spice to Detroit's "same-old same-old" mix. Rodney Stuckey is well on his rise to becoming a great point guard, and with Chauncey Billups at 32 years old, Detroit definitely needed some change. Iverson's already proven he can play alongside other superstars (Carmelo in Denver), so we'll see how well he meshes with the Pistons. I'm just wondering how Detroit will utilize his skills; if he'll be the go-to-guy in their setup, or if they'll try to make him more of a contributor and just a reliable scoring backup..... it'll be interesting

Mr. Big Shot Billups brings reliability, consistency & veteran leadership to the point guard spot in Denver. McDyess & Samb fill in the Marcus Camby-less void that Denver now has. J.R. Smith has been progressing nicely, and looks to be like a future carbon copy of Iverson. Billups will be a great compliment to the young team. and hey.. Carmelo gets the ball more. Always a plus

I like it for Detroit. Iverson is the career ppg leader among active players at 27ppg and 3rd all time. Think about that...

OK... Billips is a great PG but he aint gonna be around much longer. Sure he can offer up a crapton of assists and knock a 3 when needed. McDyees is a great role player and will fill the void left by Camby. But who is this Samb guy??

BTW, Iverson's contract's up at the end of the year. Will he be around after this season??

The idea is that Detroit can experiment with this lineup, and since it's already Iverson's last year, if it doesn't work out, then he can just not renew his contract, or trade him away, whatever seems fit.

I loved the old Detriot core... but I have to agree with what TNT said, the team has been together so long that it's no longer as coachable as it can be. When the team outlasts all the coaches, it's not an easy task for a new coach to come in and take over.

I hope for the best for Detroit, but the East is slowly getting tougher with Toronto, Orlando, Boston, and Cleveland.

GREAT call.....

Holy crap.. a Pistons lineup of Rodney Stuckey, Rip Hamilton, LeBron James, Tayshaun Prince, and Jason Maxiell would be absolutely devastating in the East... and it looks like the idea is most certainly gonna happen.

Joe Dumars is a GENIUS. he found a way to replace Iverson (with Stuckey) and Wallace (with Maxiell) without really losing any talent, he's keeping 2 All-Stars in Rip & Prince, AND found a way to be under the salary cap by 2010 for LBJ. it's mind-bottling lol

Cheikh Samb played a little bit with the Pistons in the big league, but spent most of his time with us in the D league. He's a fairly good center and stands at about 7'1" or 7'2" IIRC, so he's got potential. He did well in the D league so he's not just filler, he has potential.

I like Chauncey. A lot. I'm sad to see him go. It will be interesting to see how AI looks in a Pistons jersey though. He will have to remember that he's playing with a very intelligent and capable starting 5. If he starts hogging the ball it wont turn out very well. That's the only issue on my mind; how he meshes with Sheed, Rip and Tayshaun.

^^ I've been waiting to hear your thoughts on the trade X.. glad to see you finally chime in

Iverson's really only there for this season.. like the link said that I posted above, after his and Sheed's contracts are up, you can pretty much just say "goodbye" to them to make the salary cap for LeBron in 2010. Dumars has already stated that he believes Stuckey is capable of basically taking over the Pistons next season. the reason the trade was so genius is because of the fact that he had an aging point guard in Chauncey (32), an aging forward/center in Dyess (34) and managed to move them for Iverson (who can basically score at will) to STILL make them hardcore contenders in the East this season. then all the pieces will soon come together to pick up LeBron in '10. Genius

Yep, it's that time again. I'm sad to see the baseball season end, but happy for hockey and basketball again.

First off, let me address a few things. It's true that Chauncey is 32 now, yes. He can still move and shoot and its obvious in the way he plays. Also, AI is 33 now so he is not getting any younger. I dont believe the age factor played into this trade at all. I just believe that Detroit's offense, although potent, has just become too predictable over the years. It did need a change, and this I think will help. It's sad to see Chancey go, but I know he will be happy heading back home to Denver. I'm more worried about how Rasheed, Rip and Tayshaun are feeling without Chancey around.

McDyess is older as well, but there are not many guys who can shoot like him. Over the past few seasons I can remember MANY games where he came off the bench and shot perfect during the game. 7/7, 8/8, so on. The guy can light it up, and has one of the most amazing and completely underrated midrange jump shots in the league. Watch for Detroit to take him back after his 30 days, I'm fairly certain they will.

As for the 2010 thing, I'm 50/50 on that. I'm sure Joe D probably will say goodbye to some mix of Sheed, Rip and Tayshaun or maybe even all three; and like you said Justin, there are MANY superstar players that are available in 2010. Steve Nash, Ray Allen, McGrady, Shaq, Jermaine O'Neal etc. and Nowitzki, Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade, LeBron and Josh Howard can all opt out in 2010. The market is very open in 2010, so I'm sure that we will see a lot of new faces everywhere.

One last thing. I agree completely with Dumars saying that Stuckey will be ready next year for full time duties. He has grown much from his experience so far in the league. He now exhibits patience and executes intelligently on the floor. I'm happy that he will be getting more time now in preparation for next year. I've started calling him 25 Cent now, doesnt he sort of look like a half-assed 50 Cent? He's also got Will Bynum backing him up, who has blown me away so far. Our no-name PGs are going to help light it up this season.

All in all I'm pretty happy, and VERY anxious to see tonight's game in which AI will dress.

good article linked up there. Didnt know they were gunning for Lebron.

Didnt realize you were a b-ball fan x. you're right that Detroit has had the best starting 5 in the league for so many years. No superstars, just 5 solid all-stars. I was a huge Sheed fan during the Pistons best days. Most versatile PF in the game. McDyees never gets his due credit but he is very consistent.

Cant say anything bad about Billups. I realized after I made my first reply he and Iverson are about the same age. AI is a speed player. Billups is a big strong PG.
