Well I have years and years of industry experience in the performance industry. I have worked for several large leaders in the field and well Im a Nissan guy. Long story short. I bought a Q for parts for my 240 and fell in love with it. So now i own two. I am putting one back together and I need lowering springs so I am looking into manufacturing a small production run. These would be similar in drop to the Eibachs. I would guess that the springs would be approx $200.00 a set of 4. Ideas thoughts....cleaned the post up and too kout some useless verbage.

How can you copy Eibachs and yet redesign them so they are lower and commit fraud by telling the non engineers untrained on the form that they are Eibach style?

Shame SHAME! What is Eibach style anyway, explain it in technical specific terms. Which deep pocket company does one bring suit against if the springs fail in less than 100,000 miles?

Just don't know why you would want to go lower and increase the problems lowering causes? Are you going to sell the dropped steering links with them also?

Well its early and I am not in the mood for this today. I was looking for input on whether people would like eibach height or a little lower. As far a fraud, Why dont you mind your own business you dont even know me. I am in fact working with an Eibach engineer who is ex koni engineer who also is a freelance suspension engineer in general in europe. I understand suspension, i am not some kid. I have either raced myself or been part of teams ranging from formula atlantic and ford to GT cars to the Ferrari WSC team. I understand geometry, motion ratio, free length, coil spacing, coil diameter, steering angle, bump steer, etc..... I am not some hack. Many Motorola Cup, SCCA and other race teams over the years have had me manufacturer products for them to their or my spec. These springs would have a warranty and be wound on a Wafios winding machine by a company who has made springs for many companies in the Industry private label. Come on people if you really believe that everyone including Eibach makes all the products they sell in house., I know your all not that dumb. I can show you where JIC, Buddy Club, Tanabe, and so on get many of their products made ranging from in the USA to China, Japan and Europe. When i say i have been in the industry i am not BSing. I think i will just use the springs and forget it. No hard feelings guys. How about I just let the who thing drop and you guys can just not have any springs anymore in the USA.

Neither do you know me, so your statement is patently fraudulent in itself. I don't know where you've been, but I have been here and on the preceding Q45 boards for over 8 years.

So don't think you know it all, as by some of your posts, I would avoid a "mechanic" with some of your hair brained and erroneus assumptions. Keep it liimited to what you do know.

I'm gonna take the road less belabored here and say, "Build it and they will come".

Lots of G50's finding their way down to the lower echelon of the socioeconomic strata of consumers, and they'll want to drop their car... if nothing else, they'll sell on ebay.

Agreed that most "big name" products (such as springs) are manufactured in the same run as those packaged by "no-name" companies... You'd be surprised to know that your $500 coils were wound from the same steel as the Chinese knockoffs and got a different color powdercoating before sale.

Attend an AAPEX show and meet some of the manufacturer reps and you'll understand....

Just don't use Eibach style. What's wrong with just plain lowering springs with a detailed stiffness curve over the +- 3.0" range at normalized ride height?

Having been involved with "Blue Mountain Style" coffee, "Florida Style OJ""Peruvian Style Passion Fruit Juice" and many other "STYLES" in my past.

Now THAT is comedy.

Agreed - In fact, package them in a white box that says, "Q45 Lowering Sprangs" (yes, spelled like that) and they'll sell like hotcakes (especially to people who know what 'hotcakes' are...)

20 years ago I sold more exotic coffee beans and fruit juices to the Japanese than any other American. I once chartered an entire L1011 to fly frozen fruit juice concentrate from PR to Tokyo. To meet a product launch deadline.I became the world's expert of styles [faking the taste and chemistry].

Then came their premium product collapse a few years later. So sorry we must cut back and thank you very much for your years of effort.

Had I just concentrated on perfume or pharmacetucials [generics] or plain old herbal medicines life [mine and yours] would be different.

There was your mistake.

Instead of selling them beans and juice, you should have been selling hotcakes.

ok here is the deal. i am waiting for the original springs to arrive. i already talked to my engineer and they will be shipped to him for materials and programming quote. i will then post what they will cost and time frame. these guys are pros. i have used them before and they make springs for many many companies including dinan and others so i trust them

i will keep everyone posted

The important thing to know and measure is the variable stiffness [if rear progressives like Eibach].

People don't understand that progressives require progressive and unique shocks to match vs the linear shocks that are designed for market.

Tokico and most others without external reservoirs and not rebuildable are designed for linear springs.Using linear shocks with progressive springs will accelerate their life and cause them to fail very early especially in rebound.

Adjustable shocks in rebound can compensate some if you use the adjustment annually.

I am interested in springs too but I got a 97 Q45. I also have a 91 q45 and I would be interested for that car too! I think that it is great to see aftermarket manufacturing ideas here and I am not stuck up on OEM quality either. My 97 Q45 was not made with the highest quality in mind anyway so most aftermarket parts could be actually better.

I don't know much about lowering a car but I would like to go "stylishly low" not freaky low where the car is an asphalt potato. So thanks mechanikdan for your interest! You wont find me questioning the experience and knowledge of anyone on this board. To me its all about sharing experiences and jacking up the Q!

There have been members before you and no doubt there will be members after you who say they can make stuff for us.

But we need as much detail as possible so you can get people interested in your stuff.

Yes I am sure there has been but i have the experience to do this. You guys dont know me very well but many can vouch for me that you do know. I was an original assistant editor for nissan sport magazine and i only gave it up when my other job which was being a partner in redline events took too much time. before that i was a purchasing agent for nopi, sales for a few suspension companies and did private label for Jackson racing and a few others. I raced formula atlantic and ford as well as gt cars. I did several parts for the Hyundai Motorola cup team and did a car for the second fast and furious movie. I have developed several carbon fiber pcs as well as suspension pcs for some drift cars a few years ago and so on and so on. That all doesnt mean i am perfect, these will be perfect or things wont go wrong. But it does mean i choose correct professional people to deal with so i minimize the potential for problems. They made springs for many companies private label. The engineer i am working with works with f1 teams as well as a lot of top drag teams.he is an ex hypercoil engineer. Esentially all we are doing is replicating something. I am not going to change it. I dont think it is worth the development costs to do that for such an old model even if i love it. So all i am doing is going to see if it is possible to offer a set of correctly made springs to fill the gap left by all the companies who discontinued the g50 Q45 applications. They will be black powder coated. They will have some warranty which will be discussed later when i have all the details. Thats about it.

Potential market for aftermarket springs for 90-96Q is tiny at best- others have bought dozens of springs to try to sell here and had a very difficult time trying to unload them.....some took years to finally clear out their small inventory- most owners who wanted lowering springs for these old sleds have already bought them years ago....why eibach and all other manufacturers dropped them from their offerings.

second issue is to find a aftermarket shock absorber that can withstand the punishment of the stiffer lower springs- none out there that I know of???

i know. i understand it will be tiny at best. these guys dont work on a quantity break. Basically you pay for set up time on the CNC winder and material plus time. So you can do one set, two sets, fifty sets. Price drops accordingly only for spreading the programming time cost across the production run. So I am going to send my engineer the springs and let him give me a cost for a few sets. Worst case senario, I paid for shipping two springs across the country. Best case senario, we do five sets and let anyone left on the fence buy a last set of springs. Anything else you need made I have access to multiple cnc machines, mandrel benders, water jet, plasma and laser tables as well as carbon fiber and composites. I am not really looking to get back into the industry from a manufacturers stand point but i will do special project - small production run stuff. So we will just wait and see. I would like to see how many would be interested in springs which would be same drop as eibach and lets say cost is 200 - 240 a set.

thanks everyone for the advice and interest

Consider making them just slightly stiffer than stock with a 1 inch drop in a non-progressive rear spring design and you may broaden your potential market. Ultra stiff and over 1 inch drop and you eliminate most who live in areas with poor road quality and those who want to maintain some ride quality and shock absorber life.

scrap the modeling off the Eibach design and utilize the OEM design spring as your model and stiffen them enough to compensate for a 1 inch shortening and you may be on to something unique to the 90-96Q

I am all for lowering if I had a oil pan protector. But I like the way the stock height is in my Q45. I have Tokico blues for sure with OEM springs I think. And when I get the Impul front bumper I will need as much height as possible without having a 4X4 :Cough:ZOMG.SR20 with the 4X4 240SX:Cough:

But I do agree on stiffness though, stiffer=better.

Explain why stiffer is better?Spring stiffness does very very very little to change the load transfer to the tire and thus cannot change handling very much. It does however FOOL the non technical uneducated into thinking it has improved measurable handling.

A 20% stiffer spring might change handling 1% or less.

Remember a body support spring is in series with the most imprortant spring [the tire sidewall].

The tire sidewall spring is already 1000-1500 pound per inch.

Everthing depends on the suspension camber curve with body roll!

You want to run the softest springs you can get away with that reduces body roll to an Livable level, and has an appropriate roll couple balance to give you the oversteer/understeer characteristics you want with the most grip your car can achieve.

To me building sway bars is a better use of money
