Guys, check out this site, including the screenshots and the software preview. If you had the chance to buy a Q-version of this product, with the same features available, would you? No nice-to-haves or fantasy talk; be honest.

Good Idea!!!!!

I am gonna email the guy again today and see if anyhting is new with the Qonsult!

Just think real time data and info on my laptop :ylsuper

I think its worth it!!! cause at 80 bucks a pop for the dealer and then you usally dont get what you really want.

I dont even want to go into how easy it would be to diagnose problems!!!

Oh the possibilities!

I would buy one for the J, or heck the I30, it would work on both as I understand. It would be SWEEET to run tests on your car at any given time and it would be SO easy! After a couple times it would be paid for especially if you're paying prices at the dealer like some members around here. :(

YES!!!!!

Mayhem your lucky you can buy it now and it would work as for us Q people we need modifications. When i talked to the guy he said that they tried to hook up to a Q it worked for about 10 seconds then locked up.

Seems like the perfect addition to the DIY toolbox. I am currently looking for a good 1st gen. Q.....imagine hooking up my laptop and getting info back about the car....BEFORE you bought it! :D

For that, $450 would be priceless.

I'm thinking we all kick in $50 or so and have one of our members (like DAE) be the "keeper of the NICO Consult". Put an "online sign-out sheet" on NICO with everyone's contact info, and all could share in the benefits.

Shipping wouldn't be more than $10 from member to member, and like I said, we could defray the costs significantly.

SAWEEEETT!!! I was unaware of this advancement over in the Z world! I could learn so much about my motor with that thing. If I get it, everybody should get ready to be bombarded with questions..hahahaha. Don't have the money right now, but that thing is worth it alone not to have to jack the car up to check an O2 sensor voltage!!

I'd be all for that! The only issue would be to make sure it got shipped back! If we want to go forward with this, let's find out how much one would cost including the necessary cards, and how many would be interested. I've got my $50 or whatever ready! And to be extra nice I'll store it at my house if you like! :icesangel

Hopefully this wouldn't be like a grand scheme my dad came up with with a buddy years ago... they decided that if one of them worked in the US, and sent so many dollars to the other one in Mexico, the one in Mexico could live like a king! Then every six months they'd trade places... the only problem is that they could never agree who was going to Mexico first!

Count me in

- I would suggest augmenting the process by charging a nominal fee for using the consult - so that no one would hog it w/o really needing it (may be in the order of 10-20 bucks...).

The same concept applies here that if the health insurance made the prescription drug 100% free, people would continue to fill up the prescription even if they stopped using it - just to tax the system - but as they are asked to chip a nominal copayment amount, they are discouraged from just filling it up if they are not uding it.

Thanks

eh...the conzult is a fine piece of work. but old technology.

what you really should desire is the upcoming zemulator, so you can save your ECU modifications to the flash chip that replaces the standard EPROM.

have a look here:

http://ashleypowers.com/Zemulator/Index.htm

i talked to ashley powers, the creator, and he said it should work fine on the J30. i doubt the I30, unless it has all the sensors in all the same pins.

the zemulator blows the conzult out of the water, because it is more than a diagnostic tool. it brings forced induction into the realm of possibility for the J30....

Ah, well, crap. Time for another poll? :) Actually, that looks more directed toward tuning purposes; I think most of us are concerned with diagnostic needs. At least that's the reason for the poll--we were wondering about the possibility of owners performing the power balance test at home. Any word on if they're considering making a version for the Q? I have to say, anytime someone talks about reprogramming an EPROM, I get very nervous. I've made my share of lab mistakes, and each time it meant I ended up with a pile of junk.

i would definitley tend to agree with you on EPROM reprogramming in general, but i think mr. powers here really has put forth the capital to make this thing work. The zemulator technology is based off of the software he wrote to be able to change tuning parameters on the fly in his 300zx using an on-board personal computer. It also inherently can monitor any of the sensors inputed to the ECU via a laptop and DASYLAB software or similar. We will obviosly see from the Z community how this technology fares, and if it is a success, then comes first trying it on a J30 and then slightly modifying it to work on a Q.

i also do recognize the robust diagnostic abilities of the conZult, even if it is limited to that scope.

so for now, YES, the conzult is priceless.

too bad it doesnt work for the Q

things to consider in compatibiity with the Q45 and conzult>>how do sensors differ between Q's and more importantly the VG?are the sensors located on the same pins on the ECU?do the VG and Q ECUs have the same basic setup (same kind of EPROM)?

these are considerations that would need to be laboriously changed in the conzult software package. it could be done, but i doubt they will do it unless you guys show interest and organize a group buy.

any computer programmers out there who want to decode maps?

hell, if they made a conzult for the Q, maybe i would finally join the Qship bandwagon.

good luck guys!

I suspect Dennis is having a stroke. Just think, Consults (and the adjustments they make available) for everyone!

Qs may quit running from sheer terror.

OH Yes you can blow a motor/transmission with a Consult very easily!

You will find that even JWT ecu doesn't change factory parameters by more than 7-10-12%.......3 degrees timing or leaning things by more than 10-12%............the aluminum heads and pistons will melt since the stock cooling passages are not designed for much extra heat [no oil squirters to cool bottom/thus top of pistons]............a 5 second WOT blast in 1st will raise the coolant by 4-5F and a full quarter mile will raise it by 12-15F even with my special radiator it goes up 8-10F. So I have to trick things in Summer [when 90F outside] to avoid a 2 degree retard near the end of quarter when the coolant exceeds 194.5F.

The more people fiddle the more likely we can get some engine replacement jobs.

Thats why the ecu reverts to normal when the Consult is unplugged!

Dennis is right. Without some extremely well written and thorough documentation, as well as operating instructions, all hell could break loose. If the above conditions were true, I would buy one today.

Members should be able ro visualize ALL the inputs and outputs of their ecu.Heck, they should educate themselves to be able to do all the calculations the ecu does.............so at a glance they know if something is wrong.

The typical tech is at a disadvantage, he has to remember the values for a dozen plus models each different........you only need to known your current car.

OK, so where are we on this? Can you buy a Consult or do you have to buy a [aftermarket?] Qonsult? Will either unit come with adequate documentation? Can I also use it with my 91 Max? Heck, I'd buy one immediately - not only to save $ in dealer charges, but when my "check engine light" comes on and I get a soft code, I can never find a dealership around before I have to turn the engine off and loose the malfunction code.

Seriously, where can I buy a Consult or a Consult II?
