Who wants to wildly speculate about the next gen Sentra?

So, as you may or may not know, Nissan says this about the Sentra:

The Nissan Sentra will continue to be Nissan’s core entry in the compact passenger car market in North America. It will be re-engineered to meet consumer demands for a stylish, economical and performance-oriented small car. The next generation of the all-new Nissan Sentra will be introduced in 2006.

I'm curious what folks think will be in store for the Sentra re-design. Personally, I'm hoping that there are some Renault styling cues involved since I think their small cars look infinitely better than the current Sentra.

What about a power plant? The new 2.0L MR20DE engine? Might be interesting to see that engine + a turbo for the new Spec V (assuming there is one). It would seem the high performance Sentra offering needs more balls to keep up with the Cobalt/Ion Redline and the Dodge SRT-4.

So, who wants to add their uninformed opinion to my unsubstantiated speculation.

I heard it's going to be a Hatch back with Renault styling, or actually a Renault badged as a Nissan etc. I'm not sure but hopefully it'll look good. In 04 the styling was blah imo. I heard the motor used would be the QR w/ 165hp. I also heard the car might have a SR20VE in it. Who knows, have to wait and see.

I doubt any SR, the SR has come to the end of the line, sadly. Then again, that makes my car that much cooler.

If the SR really is gone, does that qualify my car as "old school?"

I've seen the pictures of the hatch that's rumored, it looks like ***. And if they plan on keeping up with other sport compacts, they'd better boost it. Hopefully the MR will be as stout as its papa.

I sure hope it will look like a Renault. The styling on the Sentras has been BLAND as hell lately. Say what you will about the French, but they make some eye-catching cars. The Clio V6 is a badass looking hot hatch. Don't think of it as French-inspired styling...it's Freedom Styling.

As for the SR20VE, I was under the impression that the SR motors were done, gone, dead.

If the vehicle is going to be launched Summer 2006, hopefully we'll have at least some scraps of info by this coming summer.

Edit: Come on...the Clio V6 looks like it would kick a Sentra in the balls and steal its lunch money. What's not to like? Well...except for those funky silver scoops on the side. They're a bit much.

Lets just hope its fast. I mean even though we all love nissan's we can't help but admit that the current sentra (even the over-rated on HP Spec V) is way outclassed in the HP department by just about all the other "top of the line" compacts out there.

Give it some style and some balls.
