I just came across this engine for sale on ebay... Listed as RB20det. But, I am almost positive that's an RB30ET. That may be a steal! Says it's an '88, which would be correct because RB30's were in Holdon VL Commodores from 86-88.

RB30 longblock usually go for a couple grand.. this one might be a lot less depending on the auction results...

Here's a pic of an RB30ET with the valve cover painted red. http://members.optushome.com.a...t.htm

I would snap this one up myself, but I don't have the dinero to play with right now. Plus, I don't have the knowledge to pull a conversion off.

Here's instructions on how to get 467 hp out of it. http://users.esc.net.au/~cobra30/twincam.htm

I hope I didn't ruin it for anyone. I would hate to have more than one NICO member bidding against each other. But, hopefully somebody here can get an awesome deal and turn it into a monster.

Anyhow.. I just wanted to make sure it is what I think it is, and to let somebody know they could get a heck of a deal here.

There is a good chance they dont. They dont even know there is no such thing as a SOHC RB20DET.

it is best to leave them alone as they know less, so they can bring in more of these motors

I just emailed them asking if they will be bringing in anymore of these "rb20et" motors. Havent replied back yet.

Yeah.... how is this cost-effective? I don't see it. You still end up having to buy an RB25 head, and you have to source a dozen parts off of various engines, plus get an aftermarket ECU, etc. Maybe if you lived in Japan and could get those parts easily. But in the USA it might end up costing more than an RB26!

Before you guys get carried away, look here

http://www.meggala.com/nissanrb3css.htm

RB20's were made with a single overhead cam.

I bought an RB30 shortblock a few months ago off ebay. Puchase price and shipping from australia was around $420.00. Then I was reamed by the shipment company warehouse and customs for another $300.00

You live and you learn.

I may be wrong.. Maybe it isn't an RB30ET... But, I still think it is..

You mention that it might be a RB20E... But the ebay auction is clearly a Turbo engine... I don't think there is such a thing as a RB20ET.... I still think it is a RB30ET. But, buyer beware I guess.

stealth-z is very well right, the rb20et does exist. it was released on 85.8~89.5 skylines.

there must be some kind of marking on the block...maybe you can help identify it, as you have the block.

Sorry if I got people excited for no reason.

I guess after doing some more research I would now say that it is in fact an RB20ET.

I never even knew they existed.. But as pointed out by Meggala's web site, they clearly do exist.

But, I have not seen a picture of one yet.

The thing that leads me to change my mind is that every RB30ET pic I have found shows the the RB30ET always has the name HOLDEN on the valve cover. This engine clearly has Nissan on the valve cover.

The other thing that comes to mind is just commen sense. Most importers get the engines from Japan. There are very few if any who bring in engines from Aus/NZ because the shipping is so expensive. Again, I could be wrong, but I don't think they built the RB30ET in JDM land, so it would seem highly unlikely to find a company selling this engine from japan.

Just my thoughts.

Well.. hopefully we all learned a little RB history from it all.

Later

same here, after doing some research, the above is NOT a rb30et block. from what i've realized on the rb30 block the water pump sits about 30mm lower than the headgasket....

look at the pic below to see what i meant.

Sharing information and ideas are what this site is all about, right? I just didn't want to see someone waste money on it untill all the facts were known about it. We work hard for our $$$.
