Hi, my name is Ben. I have a small co. with my friend and we are turboing our q45s. basically, i found a local piston maker with a lot of clout in the area and he is willing to make some forged 8.5:1 pistons for us. I was wondering who was interested, could make a deposit, and who has a piston that they would donate (temporarily) so that we can get these made. turnaround is 3 weeks (approx) and i will have cost, etc at EOB (end of Business day). all i need are the following pieces of info and this seems the best place to get it.

P.S. if you don't know the answer to these, please don't respond with guesses as everyone else who purchases will be SOL. All I know is that once these are made, I am swapping the transmission with a manual, so i will let you guys know what it takes to do that too. I love my Q but the trans is blown so i might as well TT it.

Here is the Info I am looking for:Engine: VH45DEYear: 1993Model: Infiniti Q45Bore: 93Clearance: ???Stroke: 82.7Comp. Ration: 8.5:1Cyl. Head: ??? (anybody know what they are asking? # of cyls?)Chamber CCs: ???Gasket Thickness: (to be determined later, need to find a metal gasket maker)Deck Clearance: ???Valves, Intake: 2Valves, Exhaust: 2Ring Setup: ???Cam Lift: ??? Lift at TDC: ???Lobe Center: ???Pin Type: ??? Diameter: ???Length: ???Type of Retainers: ???Rod Type: ???Length Center to Center: ???Ring Location (stock or high): StockPin Location (stock or offset): Stock

If you have answers to the question with ??? in it, please copy the line and then enter the info you have (with a link to verify it or what manual, etc you acquired the data from... that way it can be verified). Anyway, anybody who wants 700RWHP should answer to this because there are going to be a lot of pictures, text, how to and costs logged so you DIY later.....

oh yeah, need to get ahold of me? Email me [email protected] or IM me at the same name even though i am NEVER on, LOL.

Welcome to NICO, Ben!

There are very few people who can answer these questions, I suspect! I will ask about getting someone to look at them. We do not yet have a VH engine forum (as far as I know.)

How about some pics of your Q? And, the ultimate question to a new member: Have you done the guides?

The easiest way to make sure you get something serviceable is to supply them an oem piston with rings and rods. And pay them to analyse.

The combustion space is 55.0735 cc [561.75 cc/10.2=] with existing piston so you need 11 cc more of depression in piston [oem flat top with flycuts] for valves.

IF I recal, you can buy just a piston and rod assembly from joe and theyre not that expensive. Worst case you can get one from someone who's tearing down a VH45.....

Im trying to find the information but I dont really know what you mean by some of these things...

I think the easiest thing would be for you to email me so i can give you the service manual... I think we're confusing our terms...

But at a 9:1 CR.

You'd need to measure head CC's and cross reference the actual pin height on the piston to make certain they will work.

I think I would stick to a forged 8.5:1 CR piston where you can drop weight off the stock slug, and run the motor higher up in the RPM.

I'm looking at my 92 FSM and can not tell what you are asking. I've got a ton of info, but nothing really matches your questions. It seems you need to be much more specific as the FSM gives more detailed measurements. An example being:

Piston Pin outer diameter: 21.989mm - 22.001mm (0.8657 - 0.8662in)Interference fit of piston pin to piston: 0 - 0.004mm (0 - 0.0002in)PIston pin to Connecting rod bushing clearence: Standard: 0.005-0.017mm Limit: 0.023

Sorry,red

a guy in Hokkaido is running them. I have both pistons on the table and the pin is higher up in the VQ slug, lowering the crown in the bore.

sorry it's been a while everyone, I have been SO busy. I got rear-ended and a bunch of other stuff happened that was really really crappy. luckily (sort of) i was driving my datsun 510 when the *ahem* poor innocent girl from san diego rear ended me at a stoplight. anyway, I was not sure exactly what they were asking either. If anyone has a piston they can donate (temporarily) or that I could buy off them, let me know. I can be reached at 562-449-9458 (cell) I don't always pick up however, so if i don't, leave a message. I can provide the form for whoever needs it... actually, let me get the link....

http://www.venolia.com/images/form.pdfName of place is Venolia Pistons, they have a good rep around here and I know they build a lot of forced induction pistons for hot rods and crap, so these should be adequeate for what we're gonna do (i was planning on turbos, don't know about you guys)....

P.S... where is 450zxtt? I want his adapter plate (300zx TT manual transmission to VH45DE should make it fit in our cars right? With a shift boot it would look fine and there is more than adequate room for a pedal (clutch) personally i love this car but it's MAJOR weakness is the transmission as i soon found out (only been drifting it a little!!!!) lol. Anyway, anyone who wants to shoot the ish about turbo Q45s and stuff, let me know. I know toooooooo much about turbocharging and crap and you might learn something (as well as i might ).

here are the things I have found out so far in regards to turbo'ing the motor:

very slow piston speeds mean it loves high-RPMlow compression and turbo = good (lol, duh)the motor currently makes 298(300)HPyou could feasibly crank it up to 700 but would need 550cc injectors i believe. current injectors are 370cc? haltech is cheap and the best bet if you want to make a lot of HP but i know several people in the 11s with a stockblock SR20DET in their 240sxs and all they (well the people i know) have as far as fuel management is a wideband 02 (innovative) and an apexi AFC. that won't be good for us though. USE THE HALTECH. anyone have any other comments? sorry this is quick and disorganized, i'm trying to type this at work in between bastard guys asking me question about how to do things.

You're certainly correct about the transmission being the car's biggest MECHANICAL weakness (with the fuel system being the biggest weakness period).

To the best of my recollection, the '90-'93 Qs made more than 300hp, I thought it was something closer to 320 or so?

With the HP you're talking about making, have you thought about the rest of the engine?

Crank Shaft? Cooling system? How would the heads flow? New/regrind Cam shafts?

What made you decide to shoot for an 8.5:1 compression ratio? What PSI are you looking to run?

If you're building up your VHs, why don't *you* send them a piston? I mean, they sorta don't have any purpose while they're sitting around in a box or on the work bench... so might as well send them one of yours, right? That way you don't have to rely on someone else who might not come through. And while you're at it, with your VH apart, you can confirm specs for yourself, and not have to rely on "internet specs."http://www.nissanv8.com
