who's venting their BOV?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

I want to put the MAF after the BOV. where did you guys put yours? i need ideas. i was thinking right before the TB, but that would suck because i would have to reduce the diatmeter to the MAF size, then increase it again for the TB, and that would be very restrictive.

Don't put a hot wire AFM after the turbo. The heat and oil residue if your turbo is wore out will quickly destroy it. People do it but that doesn't make it a good idea. It's designed to read incoming air at abient heat and pressure, you stick it in a searing high pressure environment and you will never get it to read consistently. I have seen one guy get away with it. He broke the tube portion of the sensor off so just the box and probe were left, drilled a hole in his intercooler piping, dropped the probe through it and sealed the base with high-temp RTV and used hose clamps to hold it in place. Now he has an F-Con V pro and a shop dyno to tune it but even with that he will be the first to admit it still gives him fits. Don't do it.

alrighty.

is the only alternative to recirculate?

ull get much better results in the KA-T section (assuming u want to go KA-T) there are some AFR tuners that advertise ability to cancel out atmosphere dumping BOVs such as the S-AFCII (and maybe S-AFCI) but im not sure how well they work.

i'm going to be trying out the MAF hack, so i won't be using a fuel computer.

could a MODERATOR please move this to the KA-T forum? thanks.

There are a few guys who run the MAF after the turbo and have had decent results...But if you simply want the psssht sound, get a HKS AFR, then you'll have fuel tuning and EIDS for open ar BOV's.

no, i couldn't care less about the pssshhh sound. i want to vent for the simplicity of the install. although, it won't be too hard if i have to recirculate.

I want to vent for the sound. :P I'll admit that.

I got the HKS AFR so I'll let you guys know how it works with venting my BOV after the install. Hopefully doing it all next week.

Mine is vented, safc takes care of stalling just fine....not to mention it's other useful features.

I'll admit to loving that sound too! :ylsuper

you can still hear the sound when you recirculate if you have a cone filter.

if your talkin about the s'afc2,

which settings exactly do you adjust for this? I didnt find much in the manual and am wondering the flexibility of this feature.

Just vent atmospherically and turn up the idle some

It's the deceleration air function on mine, from what i gather all you're doing is giving the computer a set airflow signal @closed throttle- which you adjust in terms of throttle % and air flow % (pretty sure about that, but i can't check now) This in turn keeps you from going rich and stalling when you close the throttle under pressure. I don't thing it's flexibility goes far beyond that.

Awesome!

So it ignores the maf signal at closed throttle and simply injects a pre-set amount of fuel instead?

Soemthing like that...Yes- it defaults to a pre set air flow voltage on closed throttle.

I never even though of the mafs getting clogged in a blow through mafs...damn there goes my blow thru idea.now how da **** am I gonna get both turbo intakes thru one mafs? maybe I can use the stock 2 into 1 from a Z and a Z32 mafs, or maybe I could use two ka mafs and just plug in one. Think JWT could program an ECU for that???

I doubt it will get clogged. The hot wire is self cleaning as it will heat up to a very hot temp breifly when you turn off the motor. If you are that concerned, you can always get a catch can to minimize blow-by oil. Keep in mind Stillen, Greddy, Vortech and Procharger are all using blow-though MAF's on some Nissans. It's doubtful there is that much to be conserned about otherwise, we probably wouldn't see a blow-through MAF on them.

sorry for my ignorance but what is a blow through maf? is that when u place the maf between the turbo and intercooler? And how come there is stalling when venting to atmosphere?

Yes, a blow-through MAF is exactly that.

Open BOV on a draw-through MAF set-up will stall because the MAF will have measured the air thatr is being vented. Since the ECU doesn;t know that air is vented, it will think that the metered air will be going into the engine. It will add fuel accordingly and since not as much air will actually be going in, the ECU will dump too much fuel. If it gets too rich, particularly close to idle, the mixture will have a hard time igniting and will may stall.

See if i had used my brain i would've figured that one out

But how come a recirculated bypass valve doesn't stall the engine? since the air that is being recirculated towards the maf, how come this missing air doesn't cause it to go rich? or since its still in the system ... my brains fried, i give up, whoever can explain please do thanks

on a recirulated car, the air is recirculated back into the turbo inlet, after the mafs. So in theory it just goes back through the system without being metered again by the mafs. But if you don't angle it towareds the compressor it could actually flow backwards out the mafs, and then the mafs just ****s and dies and the car catches on fire.lol

when you recirculate, pressurized air is released between the compressor and the MAF so it is still in the system after the MAF. all the air is accounted for.

For some reason that just made me laugh. thanks for the explanations.

spitz7985 - I just found out yesterday through KA24DEvelopment.com what the hack maf was. They said it seems harder to do on the S13 maf but not impossible. I would really like to do this also, can you say more about how yours is going to be done?

i'm not sure if this is going to work as good as the s14 setup, but I am going to give it a shot.

i am going to do one of two things.1) i'm going to cuz a hole in the intake pipe after the MAF, run a calculated ID hose to a crank case vent cone filter. the hose, i believe, has to be the same length as the main intake pipe from the filter to the hole. the hose will end up being rather small, not much bigger then 1/2" ID2) if the crank case vent filters are not large enough, I will cut two holes in the intake piping, one before and one after the MAF and connect the two with the hose.

not as efficient as the s14 setup. we'll see how it works.

those crank case breather filters don't really flow too much air, you can usually feel them restrict your airflow if you just hold it up to your mouth and blow.

so basically your just bypassing the maf?

Is there a way to use the S14 maf? or are those two too different?

can't use an s14 MAF
