I just wanted to see who has their AC working and which method you guys went about getting it working. I'm asking cause today I took both my ka/e and ca compressors to a auto ac shop today. I told the mechanic that I wanted to get the pulley swapped from the ca to the ka one. He said he would get to it later on in the afternoon, so I left the compressors with him. Calls me later on in the day and said it couldn't be done. I was like wtf? I know that I have read on the forums many a times that people have done it this way or is this mechanic just being a lazy *** and bull****ing me? The heat is already killing me and its not even summer yet lol. You Florida boys are badass, I dont know how you guys deal with the heat down there with no AC. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Sean (needcafors13) made a thread about this a couple weeks ago. Basically you use the CA compressor, but you get your low pressure line modified so you use the CA fitting on the KA line. From there, it just bolts right up and you are good to go. No other "mods" required.

Thanks for the reply crad. I remember him saying that he welded his lines to work. But unfortunately for me I am unable to find my Ca fittings. I did some searching through the forums and read in some threads that people were swapping the pulleys between the ca and ka compressors. But those posts were from back in 2003 lol. So I had no choice but go this route, and figured if the compressor ever went bad then the ka would be easier to come by then a ca one. Unless the the compressor from a pulsar would work. Then I would still need the fittings. Ah well. Someone please help I 'm highly allergic to summer heat. lol

thanks in advance, wei

does a/c kill power alot on our cars when its on?

whatd you do about wiring? theres what looks to be an a/c plug just hanging out in my engine bay with the CA harness. will that work off the stock a/c button with no work?

A/C boggs the car down big time. It's also very heavy and takes up alot of room in the engine bay. Less things to work around, the better! Row down the windows and sweat it off.

My s13 is my daily driver and I spend about 10-12 hours a day in the car driving around doing deliveries, so sweating it out would kill me. lol I would be one nasty smelling dude at the end of work everyday. lol

holy f'n crap YES it does, the motor becomes a DOG. but its totally worth it when you have a hot chick in the car that would otherwise be hating her life (and probably you too) when its 90 degrees with 99% humidity outside in the middle of a florida summer I rode 3 years without a/c, I'll never go back! at least on my daily driver...

ECU should cut the AC if you floor it tho, unless you didn't hook something up right :D

Yea, I'm kinda mad, because I actually had a spare CA compressor, and I gave it away. Now that I'm doing my next swap, I want a/c, and now have to find a compressor. damnit. lol.

So is the modifying for the low pressure line for a 91 or an 89? I remember reading somewhere that the SOHC KA compressor more or less bolts up while the DOHC KA compressor wasn't compatible.

Has anyone ever tried to use a FWD Ca18de (pulsar SE or whatever) AC compressor? Just curious.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it sits on the other side of the motor on a fwd car... but I really haven't looked that closely at pulsars in the junkyard.

If you're lucky you can theoretically swap the pully assemblies.. but if you're not..

There's two models of AC compressors for the CA, one looks just like (and presumably can swap assy's) the SOHC KA one, and another different one.. I have a different one two of them in fact.. (altho the 2nd one is kinda sticky so I only have one I'd want to use on a car)

I've thought of shaving down one side of the KA compressor's brackets and then using spacers of the same amount on the other side to "push" it to line up, but never got around to measuring .. if this worked it would be hella simpler to do.

I'm having some down time with my car so I can play around with the ka/e bracket and see what I can come up with. But on the other hand has anyone tried a compressor from a ca20e? I was checking out some pics of them and it looks like it uses the same fittings as a ka/e compressor except they are perpendicular to each other. Hard to tell from the pic but it looks like it uses a 4 ribbed belt too, same as the ca compressor. Dont know about the hardware mounting points and pulley alignment though.

I'll get the loaner ac clutch remover tool from autozone this weekend and try to swap the pulleys myself. If it doesn't work I may try the ca20e compressor and see if it works out.

I have a CA20E a/c compressor from my s12 motor if you're interested... fittings were different than my 91-94 s13 so I never messed with it. Bolts up to the block for sure though.

Thanks Sean, I'll pick up one from autozone locally and test fit it to see if the pulleys align, and also to check if the fittings do work. If everything works out I'll return it to autozone and be emailing you about your s12 compressor.
