Subject says it all. I got myself a set of Infinity 605cs 6.5"components and am wondering how some of you with 6.5"up front managed to fit the speaker in the front door?

And yes I've used to look at old postson this matter, but I couldn't get anything helpful. I didfind link to this one dude who made a custom mount buthe wants $20USD for it. I figure I could make/mod it myself.

It's Sat. and I hope to install these speakers tomorrow. Throwme a bone will ya :D

I have. I went to home depot, bought some plexiglass, and made custom mounts. Works great.

Very easy to make actually, although you must have your old mounts to make a template from and then cut and form the plexiglass so your door panels will go back on.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure it was 1/4" thick plexiglass...you don't want something flimsy holding your speakers. Pretty sure you could also go to best buy and beg them to give you some ABS plastic (black mounting plastic...they use it in the installation shop)

yup I'm working on the same problem today... check your other post for more info about it, but I'm making a custom mount for em too... trust me it's not worth it to try and fit them in on the stock mount- its just a friggin nightmare.

Well I scored a sheet of 3/8" plexiglass from work todayand made my first mount with it.

All I can say it without clamps or someone to help you hold it,cutting this plastic with a roto-zip type tool is NIGHTMARE.

The bit's spinning at 20K and with plastic, if the bit is touchingthe plastic before you turn it on, it will chip.

Oh well, I got my first mount made and it's holding prettywell. I would figure 3/8" is plenty enough.

These aren't subwoofers; they're only 90W RMS speakers. :)

Well, so far I tried using 1/2" plywood, and then I used somesorta 3/16" fiberboard, and now I'm using 3/8" plexiglass.

Althought the pics for the plexiglass isn't on the site, you cansee how the mount/speaker cavity looks like, as well ashow I made my template.

All the wiring and circuits for pwr windows and locks are located behind the speaker?

If you have the proper tools and techniques, couldn't you just cutout the stock mount hole wider?

No. The circuitry you see in that speaker box is for the amp/(cross over?). Only certain 240 models came with the so-called "Active SpeakerS" (it will say Active Speaker on thegrills) which contain an 8W RMS (25W max @ 4ohm) amp. :D

Some 240s just came with regular speakers (no amp). You'llhave to take your door panel off to see how the window/doorlocksworks; kinda hard to describe from the pics alone :)

yeah the doorlocks/windows are all directly under the panel with the buttons, and then braided together and sent in towards the dash... They're not in the way of the speaker stuff at all.

I tried cutting the stock mount first, but ended up going with the custom mount after many failed attempts. It's not worth it- it'll just be more work to use the stock mount.

Well I've successfully created a mount out of 3/8" plexiglass.I will have pics of these soon. Now I just gotta wire the stufftogether and test it out :)

BTW, fiznat, where exactly did you mount your crossover? I'mlooking for a good enough spot to mount it, and I figure behindthe door, near the very front, bottom corner.

Got pics?

uhmm well pics wouldnt do very good cause it's hidden kinda, but I mounted the crossovers right above the speakers inside the door panel. I was going to screw them into the bottom of the door panel like you suggested, but I was afraid of putting screws down and out of the door. If you use the inside panel like I did, you can drill away and not have to worry about exposing anything to the outside...

Like I said before, in the picture above with my friend screwing down the speaker, you can see 2 extra screws up above the speaker... they're kinda on a diagonal. I just secured the crossover that way - with 2 screws on opposite corners... I drilled through first, then set the screw, and then reached up inside and made it fit... kinda a pain but it works!

I'm not gonna screw mine down. Just gonna use double sidedtape (nothing flimsy), cuz I really don't wanna drill into the door.

I'll see what other options I have.

Welp, I'm done isntalling both speakers. Sounds great so far.

I've added a few last-minute pics from my install. Go backto my site and look in the Pictures section to see about myspeaker installs.

I will do a quick write up sometimes later for those wanting todo the same for themselves.

Does anyone know what can be used for the rear?

Stock S13: - 4x6 front, 4x6 rear for Hatchback - 4x6 front, 6.5 rear for Coupes

For rears, most just go with 4x6 if they got FB or 6.5 for Coupes, mainly since the rear sound gets killed off a little if you got a subwoofer in the trunk.

I would just get regular 2-ways with stock sizing if you plan onputting anything in the rear.

Basically just upgrade the rear speakers and keep the same size then.I don't really understand that active speaker that they boast about on the grill. I ahve read that the speakers were aplified. Does that mean that the stock decks just really sucked and didn't put out the power?

The active speakers just had an 8W amp (25W max). Nothingspectacular. They probally hit a little better then the regularspeakers though.

I dunno much about the stock head unit, but when I put my Alpinehead unit in, it sounded so much better with the stock speakers.

But I played sh*t too loud that the speakers started poppin. So I put in the 6.5 components up front and things just soundedawesome. But I want some rear sound as well so I boughtInfinity 652i 6.5" 2-way coaxials for the rear.

This should complete my soundstage. :)

You have a Coupe then? I have the hatch. I am thinking about making two boxes that will form on the sides of the trunk to make room for 2 10"s. I still need a practical car for getting stuff with so I can't loose all trunk space. I want them positioned so they are right were the jack and cargo light are. I will have to design them so that I can move them to get at the jack when I need it.

What components did you put in the front doors?
