As the topic states I'm just wondering if anyone has a working megasquirt system. The only reason I'm asking is cause megasquirt II was just released and it seems like a viable alternative to an AEM EMS. I've done some searching on the net and the only person I found who had done it on a ka24de was some guy with an Altima. I know its really DIY intensive, and that doesn't scare me off. I don't really want to be a test subjet though if it hasn't been done on a ka. Oh yeah, the only reason I post here is cause I'm going KA-T soon and want input from you guys.... do you think I should post this elsewhere on the site to get more input on the subject?

I *think* one of the moderators in the NA KA section is using megasquirt. You might want to direct this post there.

Definitely a lot of work in exchange for dollar savings. It depends on what your time is worth to you. For me the clincher was that it was only batch-fire operation. I realize at WOT there is little difference, but anywhere else and you are just killing me. The FAQ also downplays the benefits of sequential and takes some cheap shots at better designs. That worries me.If you say "we don't do ignition (without an add-on), but we do batch-fire injection at an unbeatable price" I am there with ya. But to push this thing the way it gets pushed turns me off. Also, it seems to me the Megasquirt is better as an upgrade to carburation than as a replacement of a factory sequential ECU.My time is worth more than the price difference. Also, I do not think you can really compare this barebones system to the AEM. Its like comparing a model-T to a C6 Corvette. Yes, they both have four wheels and move you, but thats about where the similarities end. My opinion is known to be total crap though, so take it for what its worth.

is that for the original megasquirt or the new megasquirt II? because if it is for both then I may just wait for ultramegasquirt. It's supposed to be able to do it all. but if I wait I'll probably get bored and get the aem.

it will be a WHILE until UMS comes out. MSII was just released and still is not "completely tested" because they want more users running it to see more bugs. the beta testers said it worked well though and got most the bugs out.

As far as I can manage to make out on their mess of a web page, the Megasquirt II is simply the rev2 megasquirt with the ignition module included. There is precious little information on the UMS. I really want to know about it, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of info for the general public, and I am not subscribing to a group or board just to be included.Damn, I'm a crotchety old man.

come on, somebody tell me why it wouldnt be better to get a megabikirom from http://www.bikirom.com it will allow you to fully custom fuel and ignition maps, and for like $150 not to mention, isnt as much work or money as the MS

***edit***sorry i keep plugging the megabikirom, i just cant wait to get one

that looks good and all, but it still seems to be maf based, and the map is only used to control boost? really, the site does not go in to much detail about features of it....

ohhh, its just like a badass rom chip that plugs into nissan stock ecu's????? thats what i think im getting. not really a standalone at all. well, i guess it will be easy. so $200ish for stock ecu with chip and less startup problems, or $250ish for map, distributorless (if you want), and a headache??? i cant decide!

edit: ok i have no idea what exactly the features are...maybe you could explain??? that site doesnt tell much at all, and it seems to be directed 100% at SR's
