Who's actually DONE an LS1 / 240SX swap?

V8 240sx? Sure! If either the chassis OR the engine is non-Nissan (i.e. SR20 in an RX-7 or LS1 in a 240sx), we've done it.

I'm trying to do it for under 6k but I will see. So far I have 4100 into it. I have a 01 drop out with 41K and a full standalone. Motor mounts are coming in 2 weeks.

NO C5s ever left the factory with an LS7, ever! As far as the LS6, i think you may be confused witht the LS2 (6.0L C5 Z06). If my info is flawed, please let me know, but I know the LS7 is ONLY in the C6 Z06

Funny how NOBODY does a Ford 5.0 or a SVT 4.6 swap. Hmmmmmmmm.........? Wonder why (not really)?

Are you making mounts or did you order them? And from who if you ordered them?

Actually, I'm leaning towards the 302/351 myself. A slavaged Cobra is fairly cheap.

302 and 351 is Ford right? Difference between them and the 4.6 and 5.0?

Yep, those are Ford engines. The main reason I like the 302/351 is the location of the dizzy. Its in the front and not the back like Chevy.

The 4.6 is a OHC motor. Some were all aluminum motors, I believe they came in the Lincoln MK VIII. The 302 and 351 are just regular Iron block pushrod motors.

The 302 and 351 are also very narrow V8's, which will make turbo headers ALOT easier compared to the LSI.

But this is an LS1 thread, we should keep it LS1. I'll make a new thread to discuss the Ford SB's.

I plan to be doing this swap in a couple months so as soon as I start Ill post up pics.

My plans are buying a Wrecked GTO grabbing the LS2 out w/T-56 trans then parting it out to make some money back.Got a friend that lives near me that will make the mounts for me and another friend who is a great tig welder than can do my exhuast. I hope to do my swap for under 6K. Im making 4.5K off my SR swap and should have 1500 from savings.

Did you notice any place where I said the LSx has a dizzy? NO...and it's CNP, coil near plug not on plug if you want to argue the minutia.

I was comparing the ford small block to the chevy small block. Not the LSx series mind you, but the typical iron block push rod 305 or 350. The LSx is a far better motor. But it's alot wider and its alot more expensive. The LS1 makes it difficult to run a twin turbo setup.

But like I said, I want to keep this thread about the LSx series motor.

Holy crap!!! WD = PicMaster! Really nice engine... Love the pistons. What´s the bore on that baby? 95 mm or something?

Always wondered, if you resurface the heads or block on a V8, how do you match up the intake manifold? Thicker gaskets? Custom manifold?Should leak pretty easy if you mess this up?

XofXtimeX: Please do that, would be nice!

Actually, I've personally fit both into an S14. The 302 is not much smaller and is actually HARDER to fit than an LS1 due to the ridiculous intake. In my opinion, it would not be hard to run a twin turbo setup at all (see pic below)...but the reason I'm doing this swap is because I don't want to mess w/ a turbo.

It is, however, more expensive...but WELL worth it in power, relative ease of install, looks, and technology.

what are the prices looking like for everything to do this swap? is it stayin under 6k for the 2 people who were aimin for 6k? how much do you guys think it would be for a lightly used ls1+tranny and everything i would need to swap it in. (dont need to include labor i can do it at my school and i possibly might be able to custom fab some of the mounts/parts needed but include everything please.)

GREAT POSTS BTW WD = ) thx this really helps me out a lot = ). i've been debating between the 350sb and a ls1 for my s13 and i haven't been able to decide. but if its possible to do for under 6k i think i'll go with the ls1 just so i can watch c5 owners **** themselfs when my car sounds meaner then theirs = ).

Part of the problem is the car is too light for 500 plus HP. The idea of a supercharger on my LS1 did cross my mind, but that is next years project. With just under 500HP and 500 foot lbs. it will still be almost impossible to keep the car on the road without sliding all over the place.I still like the idea of the same stats with all wheel drive. That will be the next car.

Looks good there guys!302 has enough room for the TT.Lots of $$$.

You can use the 240sx rear axel and diff you just need a drive shaft with the Vortec out put spline and 240sx diff bolt pattern.

Driveshaftshop.com for the driveshaft. Like Blown240 said, use the Nissan diff.

And it's "axle" boys, not axel. Axel is what those fairies do in the olympics on ice.
