just wondering how many people still run stock ka's, and how long have you been running them?

ive been drifting stock ka's off and on for 4 years in a couple different cars, but this season i was starting to relize the limitations of the stock motor as far as power goes, i have a welded diff now and that added some kick to it because its alot better than the open diff.

but im debating what i should do, if i should stay stock for one more season and learn how to drift with the welded diff better before i upgrade to more power, or just go ahead and upgrade and use this season to learn to drift with power.

i hate decisions like this

Ive been drifting on KA's for a long time now. They are fine as long as you know technique over power. But , i very difficult to slide long sweeping corners like the guys with the SR's & RB's can.

So slappy if it were you making the decision would you put a sr to learn how to drift or keep it stock

To learn? Stock. I just like the balance of my car so thats why i still run KA's to this day(only minor mods). I feel learning to drift with a stock motor/car will make for a better driver in the long run. You will 100% "feel" each upgrade you do to your car , and you will learn better technique rather than just smashing your foot pedal down. Now , there's nothing wrong with wanting to swap more powerful motor in your car , as long as you wait until you feel you need it. If you start with a 300hp car , your not going to really understand the basics of car control ect.

I know a local who runs a stock KA in his S14. He added a crank pulley and exhaust but that's it. Everything else went towards suspension stuff. He uses a welded differential also.

Worked for him just fine.

Indeed Thunderhill was fun!!! Even with my bone stock KA it can be done. A stock KA is great to learn with. However just like everyone stated it is hard to drift long sweeping turns. You should cocentrate on your suspension setup and get lots of seat time with the stock KA. Once you get really good with it then get some power and you will be that much better.

Here is a vid of me with my stock KA at Thunderhill.http://mestiso.net/moviegaller...7.wmv

Im so jealous that you guys have a track like that. All i have here is a flat parking lot for Clubloose events and the track at Summit Point WV for the U.S. Drift & Drift Nirvana events.

This guy i know , James Evans from JE Import Performance drove the 25hr enduro race there.

mestizo - Good job out there man! Wish i could come slide with you guys

THanks Slappy... that was the first full track event at Thunderhill. At the moment they are not scheduling any more full track drift events, it's all skid pad drifting so far. Hopefully they will do another one cuz it was a lot of fun and I learned so much on the track. I wish we had more places to slide here in Nor cal, maybe they will open Altamont back up otherwise everything else is in so cal

Dude , i just read through your entire build thread. It is soooooo similar to what i did to my car. Your just a few clicks ahead in mods , and your car looks good , mine looks like crap..lol

You would fit right into our group man , if your ever on the east coast , hit me up.

Very weird taste in music though

LOL thanks man, yea I like dance/house/trance music so that's why the vids have that kind of music in them. A good freind of mine just moved from New Jersey back to here he said the same thing to me about being out there... small world

My car doesn't look so good right now cuz I destroyed my Aero Magic front lip at Thunderhill then a couple weeks later I had a small mishap so my headlight, hood and fender havfe some minor damage. But that's the name of the game tho, beat on it, fix it and do it all again.

as for ka or swap i drove my ka for about 3 years i blew them both up and then switched to a ca18det the ca is fun but i wish i would have stayed with theka a little longer the ca is down so i drive my other car it has the ka dohc and it work just fine and i have alot of fun with it just my to sisns stay ka untel there is no room for improvement then step up turbo lag is a little trick to get used to but once its spinning it is fine and a lot of fun even more so for wide swepers
