I was wondering when I change my timing belt what is the BEST brand I can buy? Is the Goodyear Gatorback the best belt on the market?

Thanks

Remus

Well, what type of maxima do you have? If I'm not mistaken (but someone please correct me if I am wrong) I thought that the VG30E (89-94?) was the only motor (in a maxima) that had a timing belt. Doesn't the VE30DE, VG30DE, and VQ30DE all have timing chains?

Little help on this guys . . .

Yeah, jltibbs is right:Only the 1989-1994's VG30E has a belt. All other Maxima motors have chains. If you have a '89-'91 in either trim or a 92-94 GXE, your car has a belt. Otherwise it has a chain.

I don't have any experience with belt brands so I don't have any input as to what the best are, sorry.

Now if you're looking for a drive belt, I've always had good luck with Gates belts (usually available at NAPA...at least around here).

In that case, your engine has timing chains and not a belt. They're "maintenance-free" and shouldn't need replacing within the life of the engine.
