I know they are overpriced, not reliable (especially that one), and there is this common misconception of performance. Porsches have no performance (unless you spend over $100K but even those don't give you much for what you pay. Porsches = Hype

If name means everything to you go for it, chicks will think you have money and midlife crisis guys will be jealous. From a performance and reliability standpoint, get a 1998 or newer Corvette, nothing beats it for the money spent.

I think I heard once that there's an issue with the automatic transmission. I'm assuming that it's an auto since most of them are.

Don't listen to him. I owned an 86 944 Turbo and it was the best handeling car I have ever had. I will add that you better be ready to spend money on repairs. I know I had a lot with mine. The 944 Turbo labor for changing the clutch was 10 hrs., which I did twice, and had issues with the water pump. $$$$$ Lucky for me, mine was ok. If you want a Porsche, get a 911. I heard they're a little more reliable.

Great car, have cash reserves to keep her running. These are fine machines but expensive to keep running. Very complex, hard to work on.

They are much like a Q in overall package - fast, comfortable, understated. I love the sound when you turn the key and I love how the doors click shut with unreal precision.

Is it an 86.5? That year has a better engine. I do believe the 86 is the best of the first gen but post/search rennlist as it is a wealth of info/very passionate helpful group.

I like the 928's. My father's friend has one, and it's a good car. Reliability is an issue, but they feel great. It's a question of whether or not you can afford it, I suppose.

Bull **** they are. The 911 has won the most international racing titles ever, followed by the M3. The problem with Porsche's like the GT3 is that they are literally race cars on the road, and aren't very practical. It's not they don't perform well. The current Carrera S was tested to run a 3.9 0-60, and MSRP is a round $78,000. That's no slacker. Out of curiousity, how many Porsches have you driven?

Good friend had an '87 or '88 (?) 928 S4. Put it in the ditch... co$t? $23,000. Why? Bent the transaxle, the exhaust, and tweaked the rear sub-frame.Three more words! "timing chain guides" -that's what he was going to have done when he spun out in the slush.... real bummer.

I went to pick him up at the dealership and he never showed, went home and he was at my house all drunk!

PS: The dashes warp, and wait until you buy a magnesium lug nut or two.
