HI,

I've been following some posts about Haitian_Kings Q and what's up with this Guy named Keith?

Who is he, what's his deal? Where's his shop?

How qualified is he if Haitian_King (what is your real name anyway?) Q leaks oil???

I'm asking all this because its soon time for valve cover gaskets for the 94 and I doin't trust ANYONE anymore after being a member here (laugh).

Keith Vanmeter is a Senior Infiniti Technician who owns and independent shop in Mantua. NJ.

Be wary of "ever since...." complaints.

I've worked on many cars and they all have came back if/when they needed something automotive related.

Never have I had a negative "ever since" comment.

And I'm a far cry from being what I expect a senior technician to be.

The main question in my mind is "Does the problem that HatianKing has now have anything to do with the work Keith did for him, or is it simply coincidence that this problem arose soon after the initial problem was corrected?".

Yes, a difficult question to answer when HK doesn't seem to know exactly what the symptoms are.

I would at least take it to the corner gas station, pay $10 for them to put on the lift and look myself to try and figure out where the leak is coming from- the first day I noticed it

We periodically see PROFESSIONAL EVERSINCE CONPERSONS, Potential customers applying for our services. We can usually sniff them out before agreeing to work on their vehicle.

We usually give them a short complementary inspection and list about $7,000 in needed repairs and wait for their response.

If we get a whiff we check with out dealer friends to make sure they are not being palmed off on us. Common for shops to fire their customers when abused enough.

We have had a few try all 3 shops hoping we are not computer interconnected.

Important for shops to KNOW who they take as customers.

I thought I heard my name being called.

It's more of what you said. It was a problem that was masked by the Valve covers and now that that's finished, I'm noticng this other thing.

After putting the car up on ramps, I examined the underside. No sign of motor oil. It looks to be coming more from the ATF pan. I had this mechanic drop it for me way back, when I was afraid that the AT was going on me. I take it that he didn't use new bolts.

Pete can rest assured that it's not Keith's doing. In fact, when was doing my car the first time, he noticed the leaking bolt and put a new washer on. He was the one who "pulled my coat" to it. I'm assuming it's another one of the bolts leaking. I'm taking the Q in again to get it all sorted out, as well as getting the pesky injector(s) replaced.

Anyone care to join me?

My valve covers were leaking before I went to Keith. After Keith, they leak no more. Guess you weren't following that closely.

They are one time use bolts, so the correct torque cannot be applied to them on second use. Neither did he have a new gasket, I bet.

Best of luck with your new injector. Since you are going to have to replace the pan gasket anyway, might as well get the whole kit from Joe and top it off with M1.

*Gasp*

Nice words? Again? Oh joy.

Seriously. Thanks for your info. I didn't think about the new pan gasket. Topping off with M1? I had my BG flush maybe about 5 months ago. Should I be changing the fluid out again? Topping it off after the pan gasket replacement will get me the 3 qts right? Or more? It wouldn't completely drain the AT like the machine would do right?

It seems like transmission issues are a very popularproblem on the Q45.

I know your problem is'nt mechanical failure or anythingrelated, but just something i was thinking about afterseeing all the posts about transmissions problemswith the Q45.

You would think that such a well designed car withsuch a awesomely engineered engine aheadof most of the rest of the competetion wouldhave designed a more worthy, reliable transmission.

I dont understand why they did such a exceptionaljob on the Q45 in every aspect except one of themost important parts of the drivetrain. The transmission!!, of all things to lack strengthand dependability, why did it have to be the transmission?Doesnt add up to me why they would make such anextremely ingenious piece of machinery then fail on the transmission??!!

The transmission itself is pretty decent, but the lack of proper cooling in earlier model years killed them prematurely.
