After reading a ton of rave reviews on the new wheel, and deciding it was time I tried GT3 in a more realistic fashion.

I hunted down a store about 30 minutes from my house that had one and went out to get it, plopped down the $150 plus an additional $20 for the extended warantee, and came home quickly to give it a try.

I decided to just try it with what was in the PS2 already, NFSU2, and I was highly disappointed. I don't know if maybe I got a bad wheel, but it doesn't feel anything close to real, I can feel every tooth in the gear motor behind the wheel, it fights me 100% of the time if I'm doing anything but going straight, and when I have to turn my arms actually get tired it is fighting me so much.

I decided to give GT3 a try assuming that NFSU2 wasn't good with the wheel, and I have to say GT3 was even worse because it goes into 200 degree mode. I couldn't get nearly the steering angle I think I should, I'm pretty sure I was able to get more with the normal controler, and once again, steering required alot of effort.

Now I've read a ton of reviews saying how realistic this wheel feels, but unless I got a bad unit, thats total BS. I can rock the steering wheel in almost any car from side to side a bit at 80 miles an hour and it will move the car nice and smoothly and not fight me on the wheel so much.

SOOOOO... My question is, how do I tell if I have a bad wheel? Is it supposed to have a whiney motor noise when you turn the wheel, is it supposed to require this much effort to turn or is something fubar with mine? If this is what its like, this sucker is going back this weekend and I'll put that $180 to better use. If its not supposed to be like this, I need to know. I'd be pissed if I went to exchange this wheel and got one that was the same exact way because its "normal"

LOL try driving a normal car without boost you are prolly trying to drive a 1000 plus hp skyline. If you think driving a high powered car around a track is easy you are wrong. The reason the wheel is kicking back is because the car is kicking back.

The wheel is fine you just have to get use to it. Give it a few more trys and work your way up with a slow car first.

Nope, I tried with a fairly stock 240 in NFSU2, and I tried the 240, Rx-7, AE86, and Civic Type-R in GT3 and this wheel was close to unusable it was fighting me so much. I'd understand if the wheel had resistance at high speeds around corners, but there is no way I should have to fight the wheel this much to get some decent steering at low speeds. My 240 with no power steering was easier to drive.

I get lots of feedback on mine, but that's good.

The whole point of the force feedback is so that you can feel just when the tires are beginning to give out.

You need to have a very light touch to use the wheel. I've found myself able to beat all my old controller lap times with the wheel.

GT4 will be better though, given that it uses the 900 degree mode.

You know you can turn off the feedback?
