How long did it take you? Asked my auto teacher he said according to some website which is the accepted factory time its 10 hours. Might not change it and just take out the SOHC for a DOHC KA, but any tricks I should know to speed it up, make it easier? Thats if I cant find a new KA and must change my timing chain.

I'm in the middle of changing one now. Just have to find another cover because one of the water pump holes has something broken off in it and I don't want a leak when it's finished. It will take the ten hours....also 24 and 27 mm sockets, breaker bars.rented pullers and about $150 in parts IF you change out the water pump at the same time(if not about $130). You CAN find used KA's for $150 to $200 and frankly it might be quicker to change the whole thing. I'm just doing it for the experience and my motor had 180,000 on it. If you can find a good cheap dual cam do the swap . Just avoiding the tedious oil pan removal would be worth doing the swap instead.

Easiest route(not the best) maybe two hours.

1)Set motor to TDC, remember what your dist. rotor points too (either 1 or 4)

2)Drain coolant, removing the radiotor will give you much more room, not necessary

3)Remove all belts, pulleys, tensioners off front of motor

3)Remove Crank pulley

4)Remove valve cover

5)Remove timing chain cover

6)Swap timing chain and guides

Now reassemble. I did this myself, so I dont want people telling me you wont have enough room or that it wont work. No need to remove the oil pan. JUST DO IT stop being a little girl.

ALmost exactly what i did. I didn't remove the oil pan wtf are you guys talking about? It was a 2 MAYBE 3 hour project. and that was because I needed to install a new injector and put the harness all back together.

Lol Your teachers an idiot. Why would you remove it there's nothing there?

I just took the front off and the valve cover..Nothing more. I even replaced the headgasket under 3 hours. That doesn't take long.

I didn't remove the pan entirely...just let it drop onto the crosssmember. I had a leak anyway so I wanted to fix that at the same time. The cover wasn't budging until I did it either. Plus in my case I've got to wait for another cover so a maybe four hour job is going to be four or five days. If you've never touched a car before it might take a lot longer to figure out the way the links line up and where tdc is or lining up the distributor. Will be a good learning experience no matter how long it takes. I wouldn't rush it to the point I ended up having to adjust anything and open the cover up again though.
