I have completely dynamated the hatch area of my '90 240, single layer of extreme, and it made a world of difference. I have used dynamat in two other cars. You do have to search for your rattles though if you don't want to do everything. I had a shop use extreme a couple yrs ago on my Lumina. They put it on the trunk lid an dit did absolutely nothing. come to find out the thin piece of body panel under the rear lights was the culprit. I took out my lights, cleaned the dirt off of it, and dynamated it. Rattle went almost completely away. Oh yeah, in my 240, the hatch only rattles a little bit at full volume now instead of half like it used to. Most of my rattles are in interior trim pieces now. The stuff works and is worth the price. It only weights .45lbs ft^2. So 36^2, a bulk pack and more than enough to do the hatch of an S13, is only ~18lbs.PoorManQ45 wrote:I recommend the Dynamat Extreme. Everywhere!
I don't like any of there other products. I personally used it on all doors, the hood, hatch, and front floorboards.
Check out Elemental Design's stuff: http://www.edesignaudio.com/ed...th=24MOB240 wrote:i used to have 2 12's in my trunk and it rattled like crazy...now im looking in to gettin a new system, and im looking for something that will stop the rattling in my trunk...so far i know of dynamat. but is that stuff any good? is there some other kind of stuff that is better for rattling? thanks
I read that link posted by looney too. Wish I had know beforehand. I've bought four bulk packs of extreme in the last two yrs. Oh well.PoorManQ45 wrote:Try Second Skin Damplifier. It's cheaper then Dynamat Xtreme and just as good
Whatever you do, do not do what TheKon says. If you take the time and patience, you will get the rattles out. If you don't want to use dynamat and do it a cheap way, experiment a little by finding the problem areas and use your imagination for materials from around the house (ie foam can be a good starting place). You will get a lot more compliments on your system and you won't be rolling by someone and all they hear is that absolutely gross rattle muffling out the bass. Another problem area that I haven't seen mentioned yet can be the license plate. Finding the rattles not only makes your system sound better to everyone around you, it'll also run more efficiently since you won't have to turn it up over the rattles (or make the rattles worse for those of us outside). And you'll probably be able to hear better than TheKon at age 70. If you want something to be proud of, take the time and effort--there is more to building a system than just throwing in amps and speakers and calling it a day.PoorManQ45 wrote:^^^ I absolutely hate people that do this.
Everyone around you absolutely hates it.
So take the time to find the rattles.
Very true.Slipstream wrote:We use to grab a few cans of "Great Stuff" from lowe's or home depot. It's the spray foam in the yellow and orange can. We squirted it into the openings on the trunk braces/frame. Once it expands and hardens, it will cut out alot of that rattling.
