Tattoos represent certain milestones in my life. They have certain meanings that i cherish, and will always be with me as a reminder.

I got my first one when I was 18.... I had wanted to get a tat for a while... and I wanted something meaningful to me. I was a very avid student of Tae Kwon Do at the time, and decided that would be my focus. The tribal wing has a meaning that is a lot more personal, but it is meant to remind me of a few hard lessons in life, and just how fragile life really is. Live every day like it's your last... that's all.

when i turn 18 i'm getting my family crest. not sure where though. I'm redrawing the knight and sheild to look more menacing, and prolly in calligraphy the words "nemo me impune lacessit" or, "he who provokes me does not pass with impunity" basically ye ole way of saying "back off mutha****a lest you leave wit'a bloody ahhbawl hangin' owt." word. oh yeah, it's my frickin family crest, so it obviously means a good bit to me, myself being the fifth in line with my name. Thomas Alexander Nettles V. good gracious that sounds like royalty, whaddya think? should i conquer a land with my army of 240's armed to the teeth with orville-the-brown-recleuse launchers? that way i could drift over my enemy's whining bodies as they slowly rotted away from the inside. god what a stupid post

Tats are cool as long as they mean something to you... one guy i know got a huge tribal on his arm just cuz he thought it looked cool. In about 10 years that guys gonna be regretting... I have been penning my tat idea for a few months now, toying with it in a few art classes, making a stencil and seeing if i like it. It contains some hyroglyphics in a circular pattern, the closest thing to it would be the singer of Incubus's tat on his fore arm. I wouldnt want a tat thats u can choose at a parlor, it has to be original and designed by me; that would suck to see someone with the same one. "You go to fith avanue tatoo shop too?" ~~Call in sick to work tommorow, be free :)

I have a tribal ankh that is used in a ( i know i'm a big geek) a role playing game called "vampire :the masqarade". An ankh is the sign of power and a symbol for annubis the God of the underworld in egyptian lore and symbol for sanctuary in catholic lore. I am niether though.

Dude, the Vampire ankhs are awsome looking. I was thinking about getting the symbol for Tzimisce on my left arm. i really like the way it looks, and since they are semi-insane and so am i, it has meaning. but since im more of a fan of werewolf, i might get a tribe tattoo.

lateralmotion, my friend is getting his family crest also. i thought about mine, but i dont know what it looks like. but anyways, i'll join your army. it'll be a combi. of Mad Max and Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail. :D

Just out of curiosity, how exactly is a tattoo done?

It seems as though repeated stabbing with needles would be rather painful, but I've heard a lot of people say getting tats isn't all that traumatizing.

Pain sucks.

Tattoo's actually hurt, i'll admit it.

When someone does a tattoo, they take the image, put it on a stencil, put the stencil on your arm, wet the stencil, then the image is left outlined on your arm. Make sense?

First, they do the black ink. It's basically an electric needle that they dip in ink (some needles have ink reserves).

Tattoos usually take up to 14 days to fully heal too... and those 14 days are the most agonizing ever (you can't scratch the tattoo, and it's 100 times more itchy than the worst mosquito bite EVER)

Yeah, I've heard the itching sucks... :) And believe it or not I actually didn't know about the stencil. I guess I was assuming the tat artist was just freehanding everything. Somehow, the stencil makes a bit more sense. :D

If I ever do get a tattoo, it's going to be a very small one. Gotta figure out what it would be now since I don't really want the rotor anymore.

The amount of pain depends on the part of the body. Good rule of thumb... the meatier they body part, the less pain. Any part of the body that is covered by muscle won't hurt too bad. When you cover a body part that is skin over bone (shins) it hurts like ALL HELL!!!! Also, the tender skin on the inside of the arms and lower back kinda hurt too! The healing process does suck.... little secret.. use Preperation H... it reduces swelling, has a local anesthetic (to help reduce itching and kill pain), and prevents infection.

I've never heard of someone using Preperation H, but i've used Polysporin & Baciguent.

Not all tattoos are done by stencils.... for my upcoming sleeve tat, i'm taking in pictures of what i want, and he's going to freehand them. :)
