like the title says, who has head work done to their KA motor.i have my head off and i was going to see about getting it ported and polished when i take it to get resurfaced.

i would like input on is it worth the money, how well can you feel the difference, ect, ect, ect.i am pretty sure their is alot to gain from it because nissan was kinda strapped for cash back in 1989.

thanks.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>A.J.

Thats not necesarily true. If the head hasnt been cleaned since it was made, a good port and polish will give you a respectable gain.

i think that is depending on where you get it done. Beware because cheap doesn't mean quality and someone can screw your entire motor up if they screw up your head.

around here you could get a single-toothed red neck to do it for under 100 bucks, but is he really going to be doing it right...

I only trust respectable shops to touch any of my cars. talk to locals and find out where you should go. Also if you are going to be doing a port and polish it is the perfect time to do any kind of work that you have planned for rebuilding your motor. Replacing rings, pistons, rods, bearings, all gaskets, valves, seals, and even cams should be done at this time... this way you will see the most out of the job, but that can get costly but could prove worth it if you intend on building a boosted KA...

good luck

sadly i am poor right so i cant rebuild it yet.when i have more money,i plan to get another motor and build for turbo.for now i just want to get it running again.

the shop around here (Dover Cylinder Head) is one of the best in north florida according to alot of my people, they are not that cheap but i know they do a good job. my friend had his caddillac's heads worked on by them and the work was beautiful.

can anyone else chime in on what all they had done??thank you for the replies>>>>>>>>>>>>>>A.J.

i have a dohc and i just pulled my head and did some gasket port matching on both the intake and exhaust side...nothing real extreme just a little trim and got the head cleaned stock valves and stuff and it seems smooth no real noticable gains but acceleration seems a bit smoother and it just seems to run all in all better

i bought a head that had some pretty extensive work done to it. there are no real gains to be had.

*added* its fine and good if you have supporting mods: intake, throttle body, intake manifold, port matched runners, header, free-flowing exhaust etc... otherwise its pretty worthless.
