I just got a new SL sedan and will want to add the oem foglights soon, I looked down the right side front with the hood up, and can reach down and touch the wire harness, how hard is it to install? do you have to pull up a lot of parts, or just pop the fake foglight covers off and reach in? how hard is it to replace the signal stalk? I know the oem set is overpriced, but because it is all prewired this is the only way I will add them .any info or pics would be helpful.

I am half way through installing the kit on my S model hatch. I bought just the foglamps and the switch and then dremeled out my covers. I just need to film adding the stalk when I get some good weather and some extra time. I'll load it to YouTube (like I have wth everything else I've done) when it's edited together.

If you guys can give me two weeks, I think I'll have it on YouTube. It's pretty easy to do, so order the kit. You will have no problem adding the kit.

It took me 20 minutes to install the whole OEM fog lamp assembly, the "hardest" part is just switching out the signal stalk, but as long as follow the instructions you will be fine.

I ordered the 120 dollar kit from ebay. It is an amazing package with everything you need from the foog lamps, bulbs, finishers, wire harness and the switch.

It is downright easy. Here is what I did.

1) Turn the wheel all the way to the right to get better access to the plastic wheel fender shroud and then remove all the tabs that hold it in...some are under the car.

2) Once the shroud is removed, you will have MUCH easier access to the firewall ports. Run the switch through a hole in the firewall.

3) Near your power mirror switch is where the fog switch will go, remove the blank by lifting the top and bottom tabs and push it in, you may see it better if you remove the access panel to the left that is hidden when the door is closed.

4) The switch in the kit just snapps in perfectly!

5) the rest of the harness is simple... the red cord goes to the positve terminal on the battery, the black one goes to ground, just attach the ground to where the car is already grounded near the battery on the far right under the hood.

6) Remove the old fog light finishers by gently using a flathead screwdriver and a cloth to protect your paint...just gently pry one side and it will pop out and will come out easily.

7) Put in your badass new fog lights and use the provided screw to secure it to the car.

8) Pop in the new fog light finishers

9) attach the harness to the foglights, they just snap on.

10) Secure the harness using the provided zip ties, put the wheel shroud back on and put your tools away.

ENJOY YOUR SWEET FOGS!

The kit is easy, but the instructions suck...It looks extremely factory and clean..you can use your brights and the fogs together where as if you use the true factory fogs, you cant...only low beams and fogs can run, not high beams.

I did my foglights alone in three hours and a 12 pack. I took my sweet time. Im very happy with them and HIGHLY recommend the kit. Easy, performs exceptionally well, and all for a really decent price.

your install looks great, I'm hoping for pics of the SL being installed with the OEM kit, basically just to see how to get to the prewired connections with the least amount of disassembly, and how to replace the signal stalk with the fog light stalk.

There are three phillips screws from underneath the steering column. Then the top half and bottom half of the column cover have to be pulled apart, they snap apart.

This will give you access to the turn signal stalk.

Then just reach down in the engine bay to attach the harness to your fogs. Good to go. You can actually install the fogs onto the car without taking anything apart, you will twist your arms in new amazing ways, but It can be done...I did it and im a big guy.

The fogs are held in with one screw to the body, thats the only time you have to shove your hand in there besides to attach the harness. You can reach it from under the car by removing the couple of 10mm (i think 3) bolts and just pulling the plastic guard down just enough to reach in there...use a stubby phillips screwdriver. To be honest, if you push the fogs in hard enough, they kind just stick in there without the screw by friction, and once you put the finisher over it, that fog isnt leaving.

I originally planned on going the OEM route, but the cost of the stalk and the fogs and finishers were more than the ebay kit...PLUS I like that stupid blank next to the mirror being used PLUS, here in my neck of the woods in NC, we dont have too many street lights... Its dark as hell here. Being able to use the fogs in conjunction with my Sylvania Silverstar Ultras is awesome. You talk about lighting up the night with my setup...jesus.

I believe the OEM kit goes for 300+, but your right, it is plug and play...and OEM parts are like gold to some people.

Good luck with your endeavors!

Oh, btw... You may find it cheaper to buy the ebay kit for the fogs and the finishers and buy the stalk separate. The stalk runs for about 50-60 bucks, and the ebay kit is 120.

Think about it...you can buy these parts total for about 180...or buy the OEM kit for 300 plus...have fun...by the way...this is the kit I bought, and im pretty sure this is the exact same finishers and fog housings as OEM, not some walmart thing.

You definately wont be disappointed with this...it is of very high quality and I am picky and a perfectionist in respect to my car. Plus, im sure some member from this board would be happy to take the leftovers from the ebay kit you dont want (switch and harness) since they are specifically meant for this car.

thanks Jack, your kit came out great, I've already ordered the OEM kit, and am waiting on it.The blank where you put your switch is taken on mine with the VDC button.I have reached my arm down on the right side and grabbed the wire harness to see if I could, but the left side seems to have a lot of objects over it.I am hoping to see promise land's video, as he used the OEM kit, and should be just what I need.

yes, thanks for the video. I was amazed at how easy this went this morning. The only things I did differently was I only removed the facia covers, then reached my arm into the space on top, I did not go through the bottom. The drivers side was easy , but getting the mounting screw in on the other side was tough, had to do it by feel, no visibility. changing the signal stalk was simple, and I only had to remove the 3 screws, then just removed the top half of the cover(mine has the inteli-key ignition, and I didn't want to mess with it)The signal stalk just pops on and off like you showed, I thought there would be more to it. over all a super easy mod, and it was one thing I really wanted included whe I purchased my V. thanks for all the help.

I have a question, but first a rambling story (which is relevant)...

The Camel was at the dealership this past week (picked it up yesterday !!!) and I was given an SL Rogue to drive... I have to admit, I loved some of the options it had, if only it didn't appear to have down syndrome... Her eyes were a little too far apart, but separately they were quite lovely...

Anyway, it had the foglamps... but they would only illuminate when the headlamps were on...

I appreciated that NOTATALL!!

I am hoping that this does not work the same way when the factory foglamps are install on the V... So that is what I want to know... will the foglamps turn on when the headlights and parking light are off and/or when just the parking lights are on.

no, if you use the OEM kit like I did, it's just like the Rogue, the fog lights only come on with the headlights, my SL was prewired for fogs, so that was the only way I would add them(still well worth it IMO).

That's how it is with my fogs too (that came from the factory ... as I have the sport kit). The fogs do not come on automatically with the DRL's. When I turn on my headlamps at night, I can then turn on the fogs if I want. I always have the fog switch set to on, so that they come on with my headlamps.Seeing as I have DRL's there is no option to just turn on the fogs w/out the headlamps.

Oh and my fog light switch is not the same that NCJack added. My fog light switch is part of the headlamp switch ...

The kit I installed gives me the option of turning the fogs on ANYTIME...with the key in or out, with the headlights on or off...even with the brights on. Im loving it.

I don't have to have the car running to turn on my exterior lights.

I'm saying that I cannot simply have just fog lights on, as I have DRL's. Once I turn my headlight forward once that turns on the rear lights and license plate lights, then I turn it forward once more and my night lights come on ... Then in the middle is another switch that allows me to turn the fogs on or off. I always have them set to on, so that when the outer switch is rotated forward two times the fogs come on automatically with my night lights.

look for a wire directly under the headlight. It will be taped up and the connector hanging out.

Versaspeed sells a complete kit, or you can order just the switch and lights separate through any dealer. Or find a junk yard and get them off a wrecked unit, if possible.

Either email Bob at Versaspeed or I can get you the part numbers for the foglamps and switch. You can get those from any dealer online or local.

GRRRRRR!!!! I hate it when my car does stuff I don't want it to do... just as a hated it that today Chevy's website wouldn't let me view their full site on my phone, kept taking me to their mobile site... :squint:

We need to find a way to wire around this as I want the stock stalk switch for the fogs, but I want to be able to turn the d@mn things on when I think they should be on... or when I want them on... or just because I have them... Or because IT'S MY CAR!!!!
