If you do, do you have a good knowledge about it? I have a Compaq laptop and I want to make my iMac to link up together like my laptop does with the other 2 PCs. I have no clue how to do it on a mac. If you can help, it would be great. Thanks

if you're using a router you should be able to just set up a network connection for a mac like you're going through the cable modem or a lan, use dhcp for ip detection, (ie dont set a static ip address) and you should be okay...i'd help more but i dont use macs :)ast

well, to ping the mac you'd need it's ip address, which i dont know how to get on a mac, but then you can run command.com from the run menu on a windows machine (dos prompt) and type ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, with that as the ip address...it should return several tries....as far as the sharing, no clue, mac's are weird (they forgot the other mouse button!)

here is a link that will probably prove to be helpful.

And you are right about getting to the shell in OSX.I'm using 10.2.2 (Jaguar) on my powerbook, I have win2k on my PC, but have yet to try to network the two. Perhaps I'll try it tomorrow to see if I can get my mp3s off my pc.

if you dont know your IP address or can't find it Try "c:\ping local host". If your mac is pluggged into the network as well, it may give you its IP. If that command doesnt work just type "c:\ping ?" and it will give you a list of all ping commands. Hope this works, oh by the way, how is your mac? I am taking a few graphic arts classes next semester in a mac lab. Only played around with them a few times...........

I love my powerbook :) A 667 Powerbook Titanium w/ 512 ram.

Honestly, I haven't turned on my PC since i've had it (about a month and a half).

Those who tried macs with an OS prior to OSX may not like Macs too much, I know I wasn't.

I've been able to do everything on my mac that I could do on my PC.

They may not be as cheap as PCs, but I have had zero problems.Hasn't crashed, I've had it on for as long as I've had it, only to restart it a few times for some software installations, settings to take effect, that sorta thing. And being a student, I got like 200$ off.Apple is cool like that. And being unix based, i've been able to program with pico,emacs.. well.. i'll stop with my 'switch' ad, hehe.. I think Macs are great.. Have a nice day.

It never crashes because Mac OSX is built on a Unix Platform. Anything unix based is pretty much bullet proof!

lol, I love that clip.

There are quite a few games for the mac though.I know nowhere near as many windows machines. But hey.. isn't that what Xbox, PS2, and gamecube are for? :)

I miss the days of 9th grade - i remember me and my buddy nmaped the college campus we were on got some sockets and were connected got some passes then got off and the next day the campus police friggin searched the classroom we did it from - funny stuff, really to this day i have the primary webserver password for sonoma state university - http://www.sonoma.edu thier cs department members are a bunch of tools.
