I do

oooh how I missed you ice cold air. 4 years is WAAAYYYY too long to live in florida with no a/c

Anyone interested, its really straightforward. I used a CA compressor, with half a CA low pressure line, and half a KA low pressure line, welded together. Any A/C store can make it, most will just put a hose in between the two fittings and crimp the ends, but since I can weld aluminum I just welded them together with the KA flex hose. The high pressure line fit fine w/o modifications (I have a '93 s13).

I <3 a/c

My 200sx came with A/C. Kind of stupid though considering it is only hot here for about 3 months. Tyrannix I can get the a/c compressors from the local yard here in Germany. I can also send it through the military USPS. Due to it being kind of heavy though it might cost around 20 to 30 bucks. LMK what you are willing to pay and I can hit the yard up to see how much they are looking to get. Send me an email to [email protected].

i dont recall seeing anywhere why the DE one wont work? its the same crank pulley, so the only reason would be the bracket doesnt line up, or the DE compressor wont mount to the DET bracket?

like the alternator, i really find it hard to believe (business-wise) that nissan would use an exclusive part where the could have used an interchangable... it just doesnt make sense to me. it doesnt provide any advantage, performance or cost-wise to do that with an item like an AC compressor or alternator

well, i have a KAE compressor and bracket, so i will try, last i read was you need to machine the pulley just a tad. if i fail, and noone gives me a definate NO, im fgoing to try a DE compressor... then if that fails, im going to hit up Jason or Dee.

the ka-e compressor wont quite line up. you would have to swap/modify the pulley on the compressor as it sticks out too far. as far as bolting up it does more or less, but one of the bolt holes doesnt line up. doesnt mean it wont work.

i think (though not 100% sure) if you got a shop to swap the pulley from the ca compressor to the ka-e one, it would work fine. dont quote me on that though...unless it works of course.

oh, and i know how it feels. 4+ years in alabama with no a/c and a black on black car.

no they're not! the FWD DE uses a 2 belt pulley. It has the a/c and p/s on one belt (I think, or maybe its alternator and p/s on one belt). Anyways, it uses 2 belts, RWD motors use a 3 belt crank pulley. I don't think the two compressors are the same.

now a CA18ET or CA20E compressor from an s12 will bolt to the block and sit in the correct location, but I don't know if the pulley is in the right spot, since again, they use a different crank pulley (but 3 belts).

well, that bitesi just found a decent sized chip on my unused crank pulley, and found a CA pulsar in the junkyard

so, whats preventing us from using the 2 belt pulley and all the accessories from a DE?

whats wrong with a chip? mine has big chunks out of it and the car runs fine.

im not sure if all the bits are the same, as they may be different due to the whole fwd, rwd thing. but if it works, by all means go ahead. im personally way too lazy to bother with it.

why not just have the old ca18det compressor converted to r134 and use it? i would think it would be easier than converting the engine to use the fwd stuff.

everything's all assbackwards on the fwd motor. p/s pump is under the manifold I think.

I have a a/c compressor from a CA up for grabs. It has been sitting in my garage for awhile now. Will have to be shipped unless you want to come to Germany to get it. LMK

so it might be viable for 89-90 240sx

if all the brackets mount the same on the fwd and rwd blocks (is there actually a difference in the blocks themselves?

then that might be possible if you use all all the junk from a DE (to include the crank pulley)

and im all over the german compressor if i cant get the KAE to work or get too lazy to try all the DE junk

i just dont think it will work. the intake manifold on the DE is completely different and it leads me to believe things wont fit. feel free to give it a shot and report back though.

Oh I forgot to mention that shipping will be U.S. domestic even though I am in Germany. Germany might have scared some people into thinking shipping was going to be ridiculous. Can probably get another pretty easy if anybody else needs one too.
