I am, but only offroad. I intend to change that this summer. Unfortunately my '83 XR500 can't be street legalized (I had a chance to pick up a year-newer XL500 for $500 a few years ago but was broke...I'm still mad that I missed out).

I'd like to find a cheap '80s or '90s Enduro or dual-sport in the ~500-650cc range for commuting to work and farting around town, plus enjoying some offroading without having to trailer the bike there.
ACtually, what I'd REALLY like is a newer flat-twin Beamer dual-sport. But those are way out of my price range.

My dad has a '73 Yamaha 250 that could be street legalized and that I'd consider buying from him, but the magneto is shot and you can't find rear shocks for it ANYWHERE so riding it is hard on the back. It's also a little too small for me (long legs). Plus it's a peaky two-cycle which is fun offroad but very tedious in town. It doesn't really make power below 5k rpm. The XR500, meanwhile, makes gobs of torque right at idle...you can launch without touching the throttle and the thing won't bog in the slightest.

Yeah, those BMW bikes are suh-weet. I really really really want the BMW Sport Boxer. Thing is wicked, and has all kinds of crazy tech in it.

Image

I wouldn't want an S1000RR though, cause there's too much tech in it. Lean control? Sounds dangerous to me. I wanna know how the bike keeps you from leaning too far. Scary.

Yeah, tech on bikes is getting CRAZY.

As much of a technonannie-hater as I am, though, I have to admit that motorcycles are one place I actually find ABS appealling. Front-wheel lockup in a corner (or anywhere, for that matter) is BAD NEWS. Nice to have a little added security.

I'm right there with ya brosef. I want an enduro badly. I'd consider anything from a 250-750 depending on price etc.

And I still don't know how I feel about 3 cylinders. One the one hand, they are fun and have a lot of spirit. On the other, what does it provide that an I4 doesn't?

Though I do love me some Triumph styling.

An unrefined brutal growl out of the tailpipe, especially with the massive 20 pound muffler pulled off. :gapteeth:

Have a buyer for my old, broken R1. I would love to replace it, but I think child support payments will be 680/mo. If it's a lot less than that, I'll be looking around for something. I really want a motard.

Here's my crotch rocket...

I have no idea what year it is, but it's old.
50cc Honda Zoomer (Ruckus in the U.S.)
Got it for free in 2007. Had 4,200km on the odo. Has probably close to 6k or more on it now. Speedo cable broke a couple years ago and I've never replaced it.

It's been to Tsukuba circuit, as seen above, Tsukuba mountain, eastern Tokyo and Narita temple. Been a pretty tough little bike, which is why I named him Chuck...as in Chuck Norris...lol.

I'd like to get a newer one with fuel injection, but even used they are still pretty pricey.

I really want a real motorcycle, but getting a bike license here is kind of a pain in the a**. I have an M license for my Illinois license, so I get to ride when I'm home.

Never doubt TMS's outrageous statments. Things like, "I have 3 R32's, and 5 FJ's sitting in a storage container" are not that out of the norm for him.

I don't currently own one, but had a 1999 Ninja 500R, which was very fun and stable.
I'm looking to buy the new Honda CBR 500R, they are economical in price ($6000 and I heard that they are very reliable.

What's with these 500s? That's a strange size. Did they just make a 250 engine double wide?
