Who Does NOT Have a Front License Plate on Their Coupe?

I was researching, and found in most states (31) a cop can Cite you with a ticket for not having a front license plate since its technically required, so wondering how you get away with that, even with custom bumper body kits your supposed to drill holes and install one, so have you ever been ticketed for that?


Only states its legal to not have a front is: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.

I don't. I only get it added on to a ticket if I get pulled over for speeding. I had never been pulled over and ticketed for just the license plate and I live in Texas..

Usually you'll get pulled over for it and basically give you a warning. Most of the time, they really don't care unless they have nothing else to do then they will cite you for it. I had mine off for quite a while until more ricers started being around my neighborhood. I ended up getting a ticket without warning since that's the law around here in Cali. Basically if you don't have it on the bumper, you'll have to drill holes or ziptie it onto the bumper (for those that apply)

I have been pulled over a few times for it but only ticketed once. I was pulled over for speeding but he knocked it down to a front license plate ticket.

Funny thing was is that I had a front license plate attached to my front bumper it just wasn't drilled (zip tied to my Stillen Fascia), since I was getting pulled over even with a front plate I just took it off.

I keep mine on my dash, up to the windsheild. You can see it on my dash in my Sig. I have been pulled over for it once, gave me a warning. Said he liked my plate ("BYOFECR") , laughed and told me to get it attached to the car with in 30 days. Going on 6 months since then.....

I live in Virginia. I Zip tie it to my grill to get my inspections and then cut it and toss it back on the dash before i leave the shop. The same goes if I ever do get the ticket. All I have to do Is drive to the courthouse, Zip-tie it on, show it to an officer, he signs off on my ticket and walks inside(no fine or fee), I cut the ties and throw in on my dash and drive away. I live in an "agricultural county" (Fancy words for "Hick Town" ) But we dont have any emissions inspections Thats why one of my cadillac converters is in my bedroom closet .

Yea, I don't have one because I'm in Georgia where we don't use them. When I bought my Scion tC years ago the Toyota dealer installed the front bracket on the bumper between when I test drove it and when I signed the papers (when they detailed it) and I made them replace the whole bumper for one without holes drilled in it.

I've never bought a car with the stupid dealer decal on the trunk either. I always make them take it off.

I was talking about the vinyl sticker dealers put on the trunk. My Altima would have had a "Gwinnett Place Nissan" thing stuck to the paint if I hadn't told them to take it back off. Unless a dealer wants to pay me to drive around advertising for them I don't feel the need to advertise where I bought my car from.

it just looks so cleannnn without one. I think thats why I keep it off. Cops are more concerned about speeding, etc. They don't really look out for cars with no front license plate.

However if you ever do get ticketed for not having one, if you take pictures of it on your car and bring it to court, they dismiss it. I've done this twice

I agree, its just not worth the trouble to me though, and although maby 9/10 times its only a warning the one time I get pulled over with my luck I might actually get a ticket, and who knows, maby Court wont dismiss it after multiple times. But Hey, if you can get away with it, keep doing it, I agree it looks better with out, but idk... Maby when I have more income ill do it cause it wont matter to me. I assume if you are convicted of a ticket it does go against your insurance and or drivers license after a certain number of times kinda like speeding right? idk that a whole another topic....

I've had my plate off since I got my car (about 6 months now), because it was a dealership frame -- a Ford dealership, I know, FML -- and I didn't want it on my Nissan. Turns out the front holes in the bumper are drilled a little bit longer than normal so it pretty much forces you to keep it on. Except for me, I just went to Vatozone and got some plugs that I color matched to my car and put in the holes.

Only been pulled over once for one of my HIDs being out, but he didn't say anything about my front plate. Let me off with a warning to get it fixed, which I did when I got home anyways because it bugged me.

I had a Stillen front bumper cover with no mounting attachment and the same cop pulled me over twice in one week and gave me a ticket each time. I even had the plate on my dash. This was in Virginia.

In Arizona, its actually illegal to have a front license plate. Don't ask me why, thats just how things work I guess...
