I got an aftermarket warranty for my Q when I had 97,000 miles on it. It was a bumper to bumper cover for 3 years/36K....for $1,295. Needless to say I robbed them when the car hit 120k. Needed a new transmission, all knocksensors replaced, driveshaft, head gaskets, and a couple other misc items that all totalled well over $6,500.

The warranty company was named "Heritage" and was sold by the auto connection, but they don't sell warranties anymore over the internet. Just through licensed dealer reps. They were good as I had no deductible and they paid the dealer directly, but you had to call about 3 times on average to get through to the claims department to authorize a repair and then call 3 more times to get them to pay. The dealership took care of all this for me.

The whole aftermarket [non factory] service insurance business has had its troubles of late. Lots of bankruptcies and defaults in the last year.........approximately 700,000 policies are in limbo from 5 companies. Many were just PONZI schemes anyway, which was good in the beginning if you signed up early in the business life............bad publicity has cut into national new sales volume so expect more companies to fail.

Because in the past the higher returns on investments allowed them to make money on your premium payments, not true today.

Self insure, put the $1500 in the bank.

I took out a 100K 7 year bumper to bumper and never had to use it on my 94 J-30. Only car I have owned that EVER aged that well. I have my 99I30T now with the same warranty and have yet to use that warranty... Good testament to these cars. You may want to put your money in a money market account as a slush fund for maintenance... I would have been $2500 richer even before interest dating back to 1994. Course next week I could blow an engine and I am still covered.

I have warrantybynet.com. I bought a used 2001 K2500 Suburban w/8.1 and autoride in 2003. I figured repairs would not be cheap. Already the warranty company has paid for hydroboost, fuel pump, minor ac repair, and 4x4 switch. No problems.

"as a slush fund for maintenance... "

People confuse the money required to be paid for mainteance with the money required for repairs. Mainteance and non covered wear and tear replacements or uncovered repairs are usually 2-3 times what the actual covered repairs will be.

The $500 annual fluid exchanges and the 30k and 60k services, tires and brakes, plugs, belts, batteries, light bulbs usually greatly exceed the real failures of covered items.

Yes , what I meant was a slush fund for repairs. Sorry...you don't need a slush fund for maintenance...you will have to pay for that pretty much all the time.
