I have approximately 10-12 gigs of music on the computer and roughly 300-400 CD's I'd love to get a 1 TB portable hard drive and rip all of my CD's on it along with all the music I DL'ed on a regular basis. I read somewhere how to format an portable HD so your head unit can read the files, just need an inverter in the car to supply the power then I'd have an unlimited supply of music on tap for those long drives.

As far as the climate control's go, the A/C doesn't work and the heat barely works, so in winter you freeze to death and in the summer you bake. I don't have a heat shield around the exhaust so there is a constant supply of of heat coming through the shifter tunnel. especially in the summer with the windows down it just sucks the heat up into the cabin area.

if i'm drivin by myself, i prefer not to listen to the radio. not that i want to concentrate or anything. it's just i prefer no music when drivin alone. if i have passengers, then it's up to them whether the radio gets listened to. but i will not tolerate anything i do not like.

In my household, it usually defaults to the driver, unless one of the passengers objects. then there's a compromise. Fortunately the musical tastes of each member of my family are not extremely different. so there are rarely disagreements over what's being played.

CD WAV > MP3.

The Bose system may suck, but lets not increase the suck with s***ty loss-filled codec's. Even after I encode at 392kbps, you still hear the suck.

I have a solution to the problem - compromise! I like metal/rock/etc....my fiancee like BOOM BOOM BOOM and all the popular music...our compromise? 80's. Bingo! Nothing gets the car going like some Bon Jovi and Eddie Money.

Dag yo, get with the times!

True, but a decent encode isn't as bad as you make it out to be. I doubt you'd hear much of a difference in my ride (actually, now that I think about it, CDs wont even play - I need a digital/analog adapter I think, long story).

Now, when I want pure quality, DVDs it is. That will own both your CDs and MP3s.

Depends on who you ask i say. I control the music when I drive MY car.

If I drive someone else's, I don't care unless it sucks and makes me want to crash into things until it changes.

In real world experience when my girl gets in MY car she is immediately bored and wants access to all the music in HER car or I must put something on that she can sing to. So that's why she doesn't ride in my cars that often. She, I mean me, drives a Tiguan so she doesn't have to ride in my cars.

My gf doesn't like the radio on, so we just sit in the car in silence, since I don't really talk much. I have to have music in the car, music it what drives the car, if it's a fast beat I get in the zone and drive like a mad man, if it's a slow beat I drive all slow and chill. Which is why I listen to country most of the time, it's just the right tempo for driving like a normal sane human being.

And honestly, if you can't find something you like in my music collection you need to just kill yourself or be deaf.

How could I forget? Most of the time a chick is in my car, she's in the trunk. Her opinion doesn't matter much from back there.

mmmmmm DVD-A...yay for 24 bit depth and 192kHz sample rates!

Reminds me of the first DVD-A disc I ever listened too - Systematic Chaos by Dream Theater...the special edition had a 5.1 mix on DVD-A...it was a blast to listen to!

Or in pieces.

A lot of my DVD-A discs got ripped off in my last car.

But any music DVD sounds amazing. AIC Unplugged and Yellow Submarine are sweet.
